From what I understand, it closed for good just last week at the end of August 2006. Also, it is said that Walt himself was aware of and disgusted by Nara Dreamland, so much so that it might have contributed to a delay in getting the authentic TDL up and running by several years.

Those Nara Dreamland brochures must be very old. When I visited the place in 2003 it was complete crap, just a bunch of off the shelf carnival rides and a bizarro version of Main Street, the Castle and the Matterhorn. Okay they also had a Jungle Cruise a Monorail and a Steam Train. But that’s it. But those brochures make it look like they once had a Rivers of America area and a Tomorrowland. It might have been interesting to see it back then.
