Anyone heard anything about what they're doing with the Matterhorn?

Anyone worried they'll mess up Peter Pan? lol

As for his growl, it's always interesting what weird places you can hear it from, since sound travels in odd ways; back in the day, it was clearly audible from the DLH Monorail platform

And I'm skeptically hopeful for Peter Pan. The opening scene worked well because there wasn't much magic to it, so I'll be curious to see how it changes the tone. I'm sure the ride will be popular regardless (it always is), so it seems like an interesting choice to update

Gives them room for some flexibility.

I don't think they'll go for full projection. That would look cheesy and not at all menacing. They need to be actual figures I think.

But I'm wondering aloud how a projected face-only would work. Or even projected eyes-only. I can actually imagine it looking awesome... and I can imagine it looking cheesy. How do ya'll think that could work?

I could perhaps imagine a projection working for just the place at the beginning as you're riding back into the darkness and the red eyes glow and you hear the growl. If they had sort of "projection loop" where they had a variety of visuals and you didn't know which one you'd get, that might work.

Or it might come off cheesy. (Though, to be fair, the glowing eyes-only always came off a little cheesy to me to begin with.)

What do you think. Partial projection a potentially awesome enhancement, or world-class fromage?

While I agree that it would be pretty cheese and not-scary, I'm always surprised by how scared people get on Ghost Galaxy, looking at the projections of the nebula ghost. To me, it just looks like a cheesy projection on a screen, but for other people it seems to work just fine (though I'm not sure it would translate well to the Matterhorn's ice caverns)

If done well, I think a projected face could work. The dwarf AAs in WDW look great, but I'm not sure how it would look when the face isn't supposed to look like a cartoon character

I just hope that they finally put a solid ceiling above the tracks just after the lift hill. It had a mesh ceiling that looked pretty convincing in the dark, but every time I've been on it in the last ~5 years they've had the work lights turned on behind it, so you can see straight through to the steel beams. Not only does it ruin the illusion of being in a mountain, the lights also make the glowing eyes even cheesier. It's an easy fix (keep the work lights turned off while the ride is running) but one that they haven't figured out yet

I'm not sure if they could fit the rig inside the mountain, since it's pretty cramped in there, but one of the carnataurous-es on Dinosaur at DAK chases the vehicle in a very convincing way. That attraction uses the Indiana Jones ride technology, so it's easier to coordinate show scenes than with a gravity-powered roller coaster, but it works as a proof of concept for that idea

    It's a new animatronic.

Yes, that effect is convincing at AK. Synchronization/reset time might be an issue on Matterhorn, plus lack of available room.

If they really wanted to scare people, they'd have an abdominable snowman animatronic that "caught" a guest, such as a manequin with mickey mouse ears and dressed in tourist garb, who is being eaten alive by the beast.

    The Hatbox Ghost is returning.

Honestly I have never heard of him. Was he only in DL?
