Michael Vick will now face off in court against the United States of America....." This is a very disturbing and sad case. If any good can come of this it will be that the public outrage will bring an awareness and trigger a change. I wish the NFL would suspend him based on the indictment and not wait for him to be prosecuted. They have every right to do so and its been done before. I hope Nike drops him also.

I was listening to the guy who runs profootballtalk.com this morning and he brought up a very interesting point. If Vick feels that he could be looking at some serious time, if other players were involved he might offer names as part of a plea bargain. Regardless, I hope Vick gets what he deserves.

Not that I like that outcome, but that's likely the reality.

In the tried and true hierarchy of prison, certain crimes are taboo. Crimes against children of course, and then there's something like this. While you'll find more inmates who would condone such activity, you'll find a lot more who don't, and will want to make a name for themselves. Vick won't have his offensive line protecting him (not that they did that good a job in the NFL).

Though most observers assume that Surry County prosecutor Gerald Poindexter has abandoned the investigation, the federal indictment could prompt Poindexter to explore animal cruelty charges, given the allegation that Vick participated in the killing of approximately eight dogs in April 2007. Alternatively, the Virginia Attorney General could feel compelled to act. Under Virginia law, the intentional killing of an animal is a Class 6 felony, which carries a sentence of one to five years, per count. For killing eight dogs, that's a potential sentence of anywhere from eight to 40 years. It could be that the feds opted to pursue conspiracy charges first because conspiracy charges were the easiest to prove to a grand jury. Next, the feds can turn to other potential charges, such as the underlying crimes mentioned in the current indictment or a RICO violation. The bottom line, then, is that things could get worse -- much worse -- for Vick as time goes by.>>

Besides the taboo of the crime itself, inmates see celebrities (especially an NFL star with such clout as Vick) as a perfect opportunity to one up themselves. Take down an NFL star, you’ve got yourself a nice bragging point. Vick would always have a target on his back.

Male adolescents bragged about their "pits". I could not understand their fixation with what I as a boy viewed as a smaller, ugly dog(our family had big German Shepherds)until I saw first hand. The fights disgusted and horrified me. Dogs would bleed and cry out. Even the "pit" owners(male teens and boys) would cry when their dog got hurt. I saw one kid crying hysterically as he could do nothing while his dog was being torn up. I learned what "Pit don't quit" meant. (pit bulls might well fight to the death or go for the throat and won't let go) I wish I could erase those awful memories but once you see something that disturbing it tends to stay for years.
