Tough to answer there are so many, if you could narrow a few things down it would make it a litlle easier.

Are you looking to buy a GBA or do you already have one?
If you have not bought one yet i would go for the DS, it plays all the advance games plus the new DS ones. My son has this and we have a ball playing with it.

She has a few of the Disney games right now, but has a little bit of difficulty conceptualizing the goal and different progressive levels (she's only six, and just beginning to read), but likes playing the games for what they are. I just bought her the game chip Score Four, Trouble & Perfection.

I know the new Micro is coming out soon. I'm thinking about the DS since more people my age have this, but can a person hook up to a GBA SP and play the GBA SP and regular GB games? (I know that's actually two different questions, sorry.)

Is this portable mainly, not entirely, but mainly for kids; i.e. under a certain age? When your son says the games are better; does he mean the GMA SP games are better on the Cube becuz of the screen size, or does the actual game play better, or are the Cube games better?

My gaming days are back in the PinBall machine days, and included the time when a person went to the Bowling Alleys and Pizza Joints to play the electronic games. I was really good at Pong! Pac Man and Frogger was fun. I was getting good at the first Star War Game was also.

I think there is an old Atari consol in storage somewhere. Am I dating myself?

Look under "Connectivity" for the system you want, it explains how and all you might need http://www.nintendo.com/system
s

My son is almost 4 and people freak out to see how good he is at some of the games. But he has had a V-Smile system for a while now and that introduced him to video games and the concept. I got him a DS for travel to give him something to do on long trips.

The trick is to find the simple straight forward games where you move front or back{not ones where it is 3-d like and you have to move all 4 ways} I have bought a few games based on characters he likes but the games are to hard or include a password which although he knows #'s and letters and a few words he cant move forward in the games, so it frustrates him and then he doent want to play them.
All the games seem to have reading, and if im there he has me read it for him otherwise he just skips right through the reading

The ones that save automatically where he can turn it on an play any level thats been completed are the best.
Madagascar, Lion King and LK 1-1/2, Stich, Mario 64 and Dora are a few of his favs and he will play them till we pry it away from him, He will go back and play any level even if he has already beat it many times. He has a few others but the names escape me right now.
The night i bought him one of the Dora games he fell asleep lying across the bed with the game still in his hands, lol.

Only if you get it out and try to convince everyone how state of the art it is before you turn it on.
I tried that once with my nephew about 10 years ago, I got it out and was like dude this is really cool you will love this, Then realized how bad it was and how easy it was to impress kids{us} at that time of the video game days.

They make all kinds of carrying cases. My son has a small size case that carries the system and quite a few games. His friend has a small case that has sections for each item, the system, the games, the connector cords. His mom is really organized though. Itsme has given you great advice on the games and what would be appropriate.

As for the Atari system, I was in Walmart recently and they have Atari systems for sale. The back of the box shows what the games look like and it really brings back old memories of the hours I spent playing Pong with my brothers.

So the Dora game is a good one, okay. Thanx! Which Dora game do you have? I've also been told any of the Mario games are good for that age as well (and older!, ahem, the young-at-heart!!)

I took a quick peek at the DS; does your son have any problems with the pointer and/or split screen? I know the GBA SP will go down in price when the Micro comes out. Right now the GBA SP is about $79 and I heard it will go down to around $59.

I still think Tetris is the Best!

They are fun easy games, even though the levels seem real easy to get through it still provides alot of fun to do over and over and he enjoys how you have to collect things or solve things {its just like the tv show} to advance, They are life endless meaning that you can get things wrong and still play till you get it right, you dont have to start over.
Most of the Mario games do seem easier but provide fun for all ages.

No probs with the split screen, He doesnt use the stylus/pointer for any of the games he has and they are only for the DS games, The screeen on the bottom is dark when you play an GBA game.
AS he gets older and better i'll get him some games that use that.

He play Mario 64 and Madagascar with the DS games, the others he likes to play are the GBA games.
As for Mario and the split screen, the bottom shows the map of where you are and you can touch it to change camera views.
Madagascar the touch screen is only for changing the caractures as you play and he does very well with that.
He is starting to bug me about getting him one the Nintendo Dog's game for it but i dont think hes ready yet since it does contain alot of both screen action.

I was going to buy him a GB but when i saw the DS i figured that it plays the GB games{which are more geared toward him} and its the "next" new one out so i figured he would grow into it better and get more out of it since its basically both{new and older} systems plus the grafixs on the DS games are much nicer then the GB's imo.
If you look at Nitendo's website they have many very cool games coming out soon on both platforms or DS only.

If your looking to buy soon i know X-box, PlayStation and Nintendo are all coming out with new systems very soon that are supposed to be killer so it may be something to think about if your looking to buy a new home based system to wait and check out what they have/are coming out with, I think most of them will play the older games from that system.
Or if your not that into having the latest greatest, the ones out now may see a nice price drop soon before the new versions come out.

You cam have 4 players at a time and I actually enjoy playing some of the games. My son uses his PS2 when he is going to play any of the sports games. Baseball, basketball and football are all his favorites. Right now he bought an Eye Toy for his PS2 and is having a lot of fun with that. That's when you put yourself in the game. It's a camera that sits on the tv and you have to kick soccer balls or wash windows.. it's pretty fun. So to wrap up here, I'd say for a younger child 6 years old I'd go with a Game Cube and seeing how you are thinking of getting the Nintendo hand held games it can all function together.

Another thing we have just started trying is GameFly. It's just like Netflix only with game system games. They have games for all systems including the DS and SP. I don't know how well it works yet; we received our first 2 games today.

Though i threatened to buy my own video game the other night and he said that would be good cause we then would have 2.

itsme, I found this game "used" and bought it! It's great for my niece and she likes it... amazing in this world of videogames that this particular game is considered "old-school" because you have to write down passwords to advance when you turn on your GBA to play in the future. Oh well.

Thanks for the advice and I hope you and your family and a great holiday -- best wishes in 2006!!

m2... the same wishes for you and your family as well!!

P.S. I started a topic thread about Kingdom Hearts over at 'Disney General Merchandise', would love to have your input over there as well.)
