Also I heard they just opened a faux Irish Pub there so I'm willing to try that out one night (assuming we can get in.. wahooskipper is right! PI is *always* crowded! Another reason we only go maybe once or twice a trip-). =)

Even shopping used to be fun and Disney-like, but many of the stores I used to browse in are now gone or turned into your commom video arcade or pool table areas... Not my cup of tea. ..and now that they have opened the redneckish Hardley store, I care even less.
As for the crowds...no, I don't care to spend time at a bar/dance club when I have to put up with tourist families bringing their young ones and strollers in PI itself.
Eating and drinking there is overpriced as opposed to better nightclubs in the city outside and away from WDW.
Adventurer's Club seem to be the only inspired club on the island but I am not a fan of standup comedy nor do I find standup or improv comedy to be funny, so I don't enjoy myself there on those venues as well...
So that's my take on PI. But I realize many still enjoy going there... Why? beats me.

Thanks for your explanation, TDLFAN. Makes sense to me -- I can see why you'd avoid PI.

I, on the other hand, am dying to check it out for at least one night. Perhaps Ursula and I will be able to persuade you to join us.

Then you had the party atmosphere on the street, the stage show, dancers, etc. I was never in there when it wasn't hopping.

    Man, I'm getting old.

Things I don't like about Pleasure Island:

    1) Way too many kids. I see no reason why kids should be in a land of bars. As far as I'm concerned PI should be restricted to 18 and over after 8:00 PM.

    2) Why the $20 admission charge? There are lots of places at WDW where I can buy overpriced drinks without paying for admission on top of it.

    3) No good way to get there. Disney bus to PI takes forever from ANY resort. If you take a car you are getting yourself into a nasty traffic and parking situation.

    4) After midnight it can get a little scary there. I just don't expect to see stumbling drunks on Disney property. Late night at PI you see plenty of them.

    5) They won't give me a discount for my AARP membership.

    ;-)

We usually go to the West Side for entertainment now. House of Blues and its Voodoo Garden is a much better place to have a couple of drinks.

When was that? As far as I know PI ALWAYS allowed kids in except for the couple of 21+ clubs.
