It's been awhile since I've been in NYC I know all the usual spots, it's my mom's first time. I was looking for restaurant/cart suggestions. I'm an avid researcher before I go on my trips but it's always fun to hear what other folks have done or suggest. ;>

For tourists I will always recommend buy a day or two of the hop on/hop off tour bus things. It helps give you a lay of the land (an overview of the city) then you can go back and pick and choose what looked interesting to you. While still getting around and seeing all the highlights. In NYC most full loops of the tours are about 2.5 hours long. Or you can hop on/hop off as you go making a full day of it. Example when I went to DC for the first time, we rode the whole loop on the first day. We were able to better gauge walking distances and what we wanted to do then. Helped a ton. The rest of the week was basically the metro system and walking with a good map!

Where you will be staying it is really easy to find your way around because you are on the grid and all the streets are numbered in order. If you go downtown you will want a good map because it can be tricky because the streets are all named instead of numbered.

Since the trip was put together by my high school drama department, we also saw a show just about every night while we were there.
