It was so commercial and played down to it's audience so much, I felt patronized. It lacked real heart. Disney is still scared of treating its audiences smartly. Pixar's work is much closer in style to the Disney classics of old.

Take ALADDIN and HERCULES for example, which both feature modern references and a "hip" feel. The characters of Aladdin and Hercules are both very different, as are Meg and Jasmine. Pegasus and Abu both don't speak, but they are very different. I would say that it would be a difficult thing to identify any key character similarities between the films from this time, unless one says, "Jane, Esmeralda, Jasmine, and Belle are all strong female characters."
