Disney has singlehandedly THRUST halloween upon the Japanese people who haven't a CLUE what it is, yet run around parroting "trick or treat" (without knowing what it means) and wearing wacked out Disney costumes thanks to the Tokyo Disney hype machine. Halloween at TDL was a VERY small affair only 4 short years ago (the first time they did ANYTHING, I think) with a few decorations in Toontown. Now it's nearly as big as Christmas at TDL, and Halloween "stuff" has started to creep into the department stores around Tokyo as well. Still, the Japanese don't know anything ABOUT the holiday and are just going with the Disney flow. Walking around town yesterday (Halloween night) there was no clue that it was Halloween at all! Next up...Easter!

Tokyo Disneyland just ain't what it used to be.

It's funny though, you COULD make all those comments about Japanese as well. Granted they are more polite about smoking when there is a smoking area around (plenty in the parks) BUT have you noticed how many Japanese (seems like usually middle aged guys in suits) light up waiting in line for a bus, or at the crosswalks downtown? It's pretty hardcore! As for the pushing and shoving, I've seen it plenty in the parks (not really so much at DisneySea though), not just on countdown night! The cast members don't call it "open dash" for nothin!!
