We will be driving almost 900 miles to get there and we are trying to save as much as possible. We are going to try to visit Universal and/or Seaworld too. I don't mind if its a few miles from the parks but I would prefer not more than 20-25 miles at the most. We are going the end of July. Thanks!

The hotel was on 192, almost right at one of the entrances to the property, making it less than 10 minutes away from Animal Kingdom and Epcot. A very basic property: a room with fridge, free continental breakfast, and a bare-bones pool. You wouldn't care to hang out at the hotel, but hey, it was $40. I checked out a Quality Suites across the way which had more of a resort feel; it was about twice as much.

We went for a week last year & rented a villa. For 9 nights we paid $850 with tax for a 4 bedroom 3 bath villa. Smaller ones were much cheaper. We were right off 192 in Kissimmee, only about 10-15 minutes away.

We even had our own fenced in pool. :D

If you're interested, I'll get you some links.

You can snag a 3 star hotel in the WDW and/or Universal vacinity (some in Dowtntown Disney or across from Universal) for $40-55 a night.

It's definitely better than just picking a dive on 192 or I-Drive and paying more than a major chain property thru PL.

I have been trying at least a 3 star hotel because I want to make sure its a good place and safety is another concern. Although, I have been told there really isn't any bad hotels in the Disney area.

It doesn't have to be a hotel as long as the price is right and the place is in a safe area.

And that can be an issue in some places.

But I've never gotten a hotel in Orlando where they gave me a room with one bed. Ever. And I've used them literally on dozens and dozens of stays.

I often hear horror stories of people paying $50-100 a night for dumps near WDW and I know these folks would have had much better stays had they tried PL.com and taken a chance.

There are no 3 star dumps (or even 2 1/2) in the WDW or Universal zones.

The only catch I can think of, is if you're not staying for a week, I'm pretty sure there's an extra cleaning charge.
