Haven't seen the Queen yet so I really can't comment if Helen Miren was good. I did see the Last King of Scotland and Whitaker deserved his award.

I loved Little Miss Sunshine and was happy to see Alan Arkin win. Haven't seen Dreamgirls so again I can't tell if Jennifer Hudson was deserving, but I loved Abigail Breslin in the movie.

As for the rest I really don't have the patience to sit through Best Documentary Short Subject or Lifetime Acheivement awards.

Unless of course Ursula's guys won something.

I also loved the silhouette acrobats doing the symbols for each film. That was awesome.

I thought Jodi Foster's walk was a little too casual or masculine for her dress though, lol.

Well, if it was the best film of the year, why shouldn't he win?

<<That fact is he should at least have three or four of these.>>

I was, as always, a bit cynical and thought that Scorsese and Arkin would win because of their history and not their accomplishments of the past year. I'd still think that, but there were other Awards in which newer talents won over established icons.

<<Haven't seen Dreamgirls so again I can't tell if Jennifer Hudson was deserving, but I loved Abigail Breslin in the movie.>>

    HUH???

And I'm so glad Forrest Whitaker won. He has always been a favorite of mine.

But even if I haven't seen the movies (or ever get to watch the show uninterrupted, lol) I always enjoy the show and I did again this time. And while no one can really top Billy Crystal as a host, I like Ellen and enjoyed her tonight from the parts I saw.

Sometimes who wins best director doesn't always go to the best film ala Steven Spielberg winning for Saving Private Ryan but SPR losing best picture to Shakespeare in Love.

I'm more than happy that Martin won this award, but he should have won for Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas.

    Yeah, my guy won!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Minkler, Besrt Sound Mixing, Dreamgirls. Three-time Oscar winner and I'm still gidding thinking about it!!

I also LOVED the V/O when he won stating that his son Christian mixed Babel. Nice touch, academy people!!!!

My other guy didn't win, but he's also won before, so I know he was just tickled to be nominated again.

Tall, seriously you're really missing out. His films aren't for everyone, many of them are very violent and extremely profane, but if you can handle it they are worth watching. And for my money no director is better at incorporating music into his films. All of his crime pictures incorporate classic rock tunes that just fit in perfectly.

Pilobolus was INCREDIBLE! I love them!!! [FWIW, Ellen was serious: they really do perform pretty much naked.]

The nominated songs from "Dreamgirls" sound NOTHING like Motown music. I know Motown. That was not even close.

As of tonight, I now totally and officially Have No Use For Jerry Seinfeld. (A) Camera pans on him during a serious moment and he looks like he couldn't be more bored and inattentive. (B) His schtick as presenter is totally unfunny. (C) He actually states on national television that it is every movie-goer's right to trash the theater in which they view movies. [NO! He did NOT just say that!] Incredibly self-serving and offensive in so many ways.

Was George Lucas wearing a left-over wig from Dreamgirls?

Why was Celine Dion's performance a "world premiere"? (I will say that while I had Alka-Seltzer and PeptoBismal at the ready, I felt surprisingly non-sickened by hearing her sing that song.)

If they needed to cut time from the show, they could have chopped (the Will Smith intro and) the Michael Mann "salute to America as it sees itself on film" montage. Didn't quite get the point of that.
