You left the building without asking me and I paged you several times! That can be considered as job abandonment!" All she had to do was tell me it was protocol that she know that I'm on break and make sure she knows next time. She has no people skills whatsoever and talks to everyone like they're five. To top it off, I had only 20 hours this week and the manager got "reamed" so he had to cut back hours. Now I'm only working 12 hours. I'm upset that a job I thought I would love has turned out to be so awful. I just wanted to keep you all updated on what was going on, not garner sympathy. Hopefully something else will come about soon!

I also had a run in with a trainee Assistant Manager from another store who was particularly nasty to me. When I complained to our store Manager I was reminded that he was a Manager and as such I needed to treat him with respect.

Needless to say I was there all of 2 months!!!

Just keep those options open and keep looking. There's bound to be something out there with the perfect fit.

I'll keep a good thought for you. (((hugs)))

Technically, you should have alerted the manager you were taking a break, but if you were not properly trained, it is not your fault. don't give up a job you have the potential to like because of one bad manager. Where do you live?

I leave on break all the time and I never have to tell anyone. It would never cross my mind to do so in a different work place.

The same manager asked me this morning if I had been trained on small animals. What I wanted to say was "yes~if helping once is being trained." I just said yes and had my co-worker check it after I was done. She said I did fine.

I would say just keep looking since you are probably never going to get any hours and I doubt the personell will get any nicer, they never do. Good Luck!

My husband once got written up at Home Depot for, "spending too much time with customers." This happened right in the middle of an add campaign about how helpful their employees are. Big laugh.
My daughter has quit more retail jobs than I can count. It was always because of management conflicts. Then she worked her way into management and things were even worse. (BTW: it has never taken her more than 2 weeks to find a job and she has never been fired. She is a good employee.)
So.....hang in there. Maybe this job still has potential or there is sure to be something better on the horizon.

I started working there thinking part-time meant twenty hours a week, and one of the reasons I chose Petco was because they had part-time employee healthcare. My first two weeks were fine at 20+ hours each week and then on week three it went down to 12 a week, and stayed there. When I passed my training test I impressed my manager because I took the open book test with no books and passed it anyway and she raised my hours back up – that lasted for one week.

The store was consistently over budget on hours, and about midway through the month everyone but the favorites got their hours cut. So you had to go to management at the beginning of each month and ask for more hours knowing that they would be cut midmonth.

After I was unable to participate in the insurance sign-ups because they required 20 hours a week averaged I gave up with trying, worked my 10 to 12 hours, and looked for other work. I found an awesome job and I'm sure you can too!
