Then again, given Disney's recent track record with supposed blockbusters, lukewarm is probably about as good as they're going to get I also find the attraction mix (2 C's and an E) a little on the optimistic side for anything in DL. That would make it the biggest addition since ToonTown (Roger Rabbit, Jolly Trolley, Gadget's Go Coaster), and that opening was spread over 2 years (despite Roger being ready for opening day). That just seems like a lot of stuff to fit in that one little corner of the park; just look at how much space the 3 (admitteldy spread out) attractions for Carsland took

We won't have long to wait to hear more about this Oz Land concept coming to Disneyland. All will be revealed at D23 Expo on August 9th!

I think some people just saw what they wanted to see instead of what was really there for Oz the Great & Powerful. It is one of the best fantasy movies to come from the Disney Studios since Rapunzel--which I refuse to call 'tangled'.

I'd have to check my notes but I think the movie was first proposed back in '06/'07. He is an Oz obsessive and was convinced that there was appetite for the characters to live in Disneyland. Worth adding that he also worked up ideas for The Lone Ranger for Big Thunder Ranch too. And Princess and the Frog before that. Disneyland is close to capacity so management are becoming more inclined to see capex devoted to the park but failed movie franchises don't hold much water with Iger and therefore with any other exec.

Movie cost $250m plus $150m in marketing and distribution. That's $400m. The movie hasn't even reached $500m globally - so that will be a $150m writedown on its theatrical release.

So a $500m worldwide gross only translates into $250m or so for the studio. Most studios have to give over between 50-55% of the gross to US theater owners. They typically make a big more in international markets. Movies are negotiated on a movie-by-movie and theater-by-theater basis. Disney's negotiating power - MARVEL aside - has dwindled as their slate has shrunk and as box office success has evaporated.
