    But...

These positive changes sure do draw attention to how poor the old stuff on the pier looks. The area down by Screamin', the section of "old" games as well as the Maliboomer, and the area by Mulholland Madness all really stand out now, and need to be addressed.

I also thought it "felt" strange that in part of the pier I'm still hearing synthesized Beach Boys songs, and in other areas it's like 1930's ragtime music.

I realize it's a work-in-progress right now, but I'm really hoping that with time the pier all comes together the way it should. If they can get a single cohesive feel to this area - all the way around the entire lake - it really could be one of the great areas of the resort, in my opinion.

The area around Jumpin' Jellyfish still has the bubble music to go with the organ music. I suspect that will change once the swings reopen, since they will have their own music, so there will be a break from the normal Pier music there, so it wouldn't make sense to go back to it for JJ.

And I agree that it's really strange how parts of the pier look great, and other parts still look really tacky. TSMM looks fantastic, and I was really excited when the carousel went down last fall. When they only repainted it with the original teal/gold color scheme, I was a little disappointed, since it clashes so much with the new buildings. The stores really stand out, since they're surrounded by the pretty Games of the Boardwalk and the semi-theme-appropriate Fun Wheel. I thought they were supposed to be done by now, but it doesn't seem like that's in the plans any time soon. I believe the area around Mullholland Madness and Pizza Oom Mow Mow will be getting redone in the fall, so that should help a little. Now if we could just get them to redo the rest of the pier to match the new stuff. Still, baby steps are better than nothing, I guess.

But it would seem to make sense that when TLM opens ALL of PP will now be the new 2.0 version and we can just sort of forget PP 1.0 never happened. With the Maliboomer gone soon that will help ALOT!!

This is definitely a work in progress.
They're doing many big projects around the park - the enhancements in Paradise Pier are being done in several stages.

The stores will be re-done later this year, and then there's also the new Paradise Garden area which will replace Pizza Oom Mow Mow and the former Burger Invasion. Then you also have the upcoming re-theme for Mullholand Madness and changes for Ariel's Grotto and the Paradise Pier entrance.

It's hard to get the full picture now because of all the projects still being worked on and all the rest that are still on the way.

Details like handrails and light fixtures look so beautifully designed and finished compared to the handrails and light fixtures they replaced.

It just blows you away when you really stop and look at all this stuff going in to Paradise Pier now.

The sad part is, due to the loosening of purse strings by the current management team and the increased earnings from all these improvements, the thieves that plundered the treasure chest amd left the WDC name in ruins will now benefit AGAIN from increased stock dividends.

They should have to forfeit their shares.

Funny thing is, in light of some very promising vocational incentives that MIGHT be coming our way, my partner and I are considering a trip to Europe sometime early next year. There are these long boats that cruise up and down the famous of rivers of Europe and the travel shows here seem to be spruking them EVERY DAMNED WEEK. Shane has become a little obsessed with them so it may be in the cards.

My proviso was, "We can do it, SO LONG AS we visit DLP!"

After reading some of the comments about declines at DLP and, well, the less said about the rubbish tip next door, the better, I am wondering if it's worth it!

At the very least, maybe have a big event in the Disneyland Hotel Grand Ballroom where they stand up on stage for a multimedia presentation on the 1996-2003 era and then have to publicly apologize to shareholders, fans, and longtime Disneyland employees. ;-)

A bit of Schadenfreude can be found though in the fact that both Paul Pressler and Cynthia Harriss have not held a regular job since they were fired from The Gap back in '07. How do you recover a career after you run two well-known icons of American commerce and industry into the ground, with plenty of bad PR for both acts attached to your name within a few clicks of a Google search? It appears the two of them haven't figured out how to recover from that career-wise.

For laughs though, about once a year I stumble across some of the old Cynthia Harriss interviews still available here on LP from the 1998-2002 time frame. She did several quite lengthy chats with LP staffers back then, and the language and "talking points" she used are priceless. They are pure comedy, and with each passing year they get funnier.

In current news, I strolled around Paradise Pier this afternoon, and I have to say it again.... The detailing and intricacy of the SSS ride structure is just stunning. They clearly are spending a bucketload of cash on this stuff, and it all bodes extremely well for the stuff coming in 2011 and 2012.

If they are willing to spend this much money, energy and creativity on a basic swing ride, can you imagine what Voyage of the Little Mermaid will be like?!? Buena Vista Street buildings and trolleys?!? Radiator Springs Racers?!? Cars Land?!?!

Amazing times we are living in, that's for sure. If you'd tried to tell us back in 2001 that this would all be happening to DCA less than a decade later, we would have never believed you.

also, i have a question. Does anyone know if Jumpin Jelly Fish is staying the same?

the re-theme is ongoing, they're not done yet, it's highly possible they will change the music for the pier as well.
