It also can mean that your check doesn't go through the proofing machine efficiently and has to be hand processed. Some financial instituitons will charge you a fee if this has to be done. Usually the check printer a bank or credit union uses will also have other security features in their checks. My credit union added Disney checks to their line of products recently. The only problem is that I use automatic bill pay and my debit card so I only write about a dozen checks a year. It will be awhile be my current supply of Hello Kitty checks runs out.

I haven't had to order checks in like 3 years but I'm pretty sure my bank uses Clarke American. If they do then I can probably get what I want for free which is almost always my preference.
