    ----------------------

BET SoundStage Club, Mannequins Dance Palace, 8Trax and three other nightclubs that have for years catered largely to young, single adults -- rather than to Disney's bread-and-butter family market -- will close after Sept. 27. Over the next couple of years Disney will reopen the Pleasure Island area with a broader mix of restaurants and shops.

    ...

In announcing what they called "a bold new vision" for all of Downtown Disney on Friday, Disney officials framed the Pleasure Island nightclub closures as a response to their customers, who say they want more broad-based dining and retail opportunities throughout the 120-acre district.

    A. Beginning September 28, 2008, your Premium Annual Pass will no longer include admission to the Pleasure Island nightclubs.

The good news is that beginning June 28, 2008, Guests with a Premium Annual Passes will be able to play a round of golf at Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course—a relaxed, nine-hole walking course designed for the entire family! Tee times are required and subject to availability. To make a tee time, call 407-WDW-GOLF (939-4653) or visit disneyworldgolf.com."

Sure. When the urge strikes to shake my booty, I naturally think of golf.

There is no there there anymore and no one goes there except CMs who can get in for free nightly, drink and make fun of Disney at the Comedy Warehouse and Adventurer's Club geeks, to which it has become the Disney equivalent of the Rocky Horror Picture show ... oh, and also conventioners with expense accounts to drink on.

To me, they killed this place long ago, so it's time to get rid of the fetid corpse and make it into the anyplace USA mall that Jay, Inoverherheadmeg, Al and Erin desire.

What is insulting is how yet again a Disney exec makes it appear as if the decison was made due to guest demands and tastes when nothing could be further from the truth.

Disney just wants folks like Landry's operating the locations, while they collect a check.

I have had the good fortune of getting to go up onstage and being a part of the radio broadcast. It was the highlight of our anniversary weekend. I know it was a shell of its former self but I loved the fact that you could go dancing for awhile, see a comedy show and experience one of the coolest themed entertainment experience all in one place. Citywalk doesn't compare. We will be heading over there a couple of times before the end and do an all nighter in the AC. I would love to be there for the last Hoopla but I have a feeling there will be people there camping out that morning to get into the club that night. Well, bring on the bland replacements. What is sad is they could probably keep the CW and AC open and they would do just fine. Really what entertainment choices are people gonna have in the evening at WDW anymore?

For me it has no effect - I have been to the AC - and liked it well enough, but in last 20+ trips have only been to PI once.

It's just another example of how awful WDW management truly is that they in the span of the past 7-8 years killed it.

    And deliberately too.

As soon as they decided they'd have to reinvest to keep people coming (after CityWalk opened), they opted to let it grow stale.

And then every move was one designed to remove some aspect that made it such a wonderful whole.

The WDW 'leadership' team wants private vendors, despite the fact that the clubs still are quite profitable. So expect to see more of the same places you can find in a mall near you (unless you live out in the sticks).

P.S. I wonder what poor Sue Holland is going to do now that the Comedy Warehouse is closing (if you don't know who she is, she is an infamous Internet character whose favorite WDW aspect is going and sitting thru 4-5 shows a night at CW and writing reports of them). I fear for the woman with no CW!

Fast forward, they have destroyed an excellent premise already. But I will certainly miss the AC and the CW. More unique things disappearing, and less of a reason for me to go back.
