For anyone really interested in Disney pins, I recommend Tomart's Disney Guide to Pin Trading. I love my copy! Plus, it can help you to figure out which pins to be on the "lookout" for when pin trading with cast members (although, I always just trade for what I like, not what they are worth).

Here is a link to the book:

Can you give me a little insight on how pin trading works? I know there are CMs that trade just with kids... Will they trade anything they have I dont want my little ones to be discouraged. How about adults? Is there any etiquite I should know about? I feel like I have put the horse before the cart here... or at least the cash before the thought.
    Thanks

Okay, for kids they can trade with ANY cast member. However, cast members with GREEN lanyards will ONLY trade with kids. They have to trade ANY of their pins as long as the pin you are giving them is NOT on their lanyard, this also pertains to adults as well. If it is, then they can refuse or you can give them a different pin.

As far as etiquette, never grab their lanyard. Kindly just ask them, "may I see that pin please, or may I trade that pin please?" and just point to it. When you trade pins be sure the rubber backing is on the pin so as not to poke the cast member. And of course, be sure to say "thank you". It is as easy as that!

They have a pin trading "learning" center for children over at Premiere Pins in Tomorrowland. They used to also give out a free pin when the kids attended. Not sure if they are still doing that or not, but you may want to try.

Pin trading is a great thing for the kids. My daughter loved it when she was younger. Now, she mostly just collects her favorites.

When we first got started was when the Disney store liquidated all their pins. I am not exaggerating when I say that 4Disnee and I went up and bought a fortune worth of pins at only .52-.75 cents per pin..which is how we managed to "trade up" and get so many pins so fast. LOL...definitely worth the investment at the time and it gave us a few years worth of pin trading! Sorry to say, that stash is now long gone!

I'd also like to add that being polite can make a huge difference in the cast member's reaction to you. Over the years, my daughter has actually been given "several" pins from different cast members just because of her politeness in dealing with them...in addition to the pin she traded.

Most of all, just have fun!

The pages with IMG_0008.jpg through IMG_0015.jpg are all from my book; all the other pages contain pins my daughter owns.

For me, I love the pin-on-pin collections! I like the depth to them.

Also, don't forget about Disneyshopping.com's annual pin event. You can get $12.95 pins for around $3.95-6.95 depending on Limited Editions, etc. Always a good time to stock up! I usually buy the cheapest ones and then trade those (if I don't keep them!) for in-park pins.
