First, it took about a week's lead time to prepare the area, which pretty much shut down most of the Rivers of America. Special walkway paths were made, and CM's were out to make sure folks followed the one way pattern. No Fantasmic!'s could be offered. Also, the day of the event, no parades could be offered, since Main Street was all blocked off. The one benefit was the celebrities walked down a Red Carpet down Main Street, which the guests were allowed to watch.

Jon Voight was awesome as were Orlando and Johnny. The last person I saw just before 9.00pm (almost had to run down the carpet as he was late) was Cuba Gooding Jr. Because of the success of the first POTC I am sure that the crowds will be even bigger (and younger) in 2006.

If I decide to keep the dates, they better reimburse me in some way. (As mentioned in the article that Darkbeer posted.) I can only go the last 2 weeks of June. It sounds as if, no matter when it's held during that time, the park will not be the same for those two weeks. I'm taking my 18 year old cousin for her first visit to the park. That's the biggest bummer part for me. I could handle the closures, as I've been there many times, but I wanted her to experience Disneyland in all it's original glory. Poop. What to do, what to do......

I really didn’t want to go during the middle of the summer, and thought that late June might be a little better crowd wise, but the trade off of NOT being there during the Pirates movie mess might just make it worth it.
