It is more common in our modern era of war for a soldier to return home with lost limbs, debilitating brain injuries, or other traumatic disabilities that prevent them from ever living a normal life again. They did not die on the field of battle, but their sacrifice might be even greater.

Today, Memorial Day, is the day to honor those who lost their lifes in service of their country. Veteran's Day is the day to honor those who are living and served in the military... But we should honor those who served EVERY day.
