I understand that they can be purchased online and you can print an Eticket but since I do not live in the US, I then have to contend with the exchange rate on my credit card. I never seem to be able to find out exactly what it is going to cost me before I do it and this bothers me.
So can I purchase the AP at Disneyland?
If yes, is there any advantage to purchasing it online?

With a pre-purchased AP, you will get a pass that lets you into the park, where you will go straight to the AP Processing Center. There they will take the photos and issue the cards. With pre-purchase you skip the longest step in the process.
