She jumped at the invitation and is really excited about going.

I cannot believe that my emo-turned alternative-turned what color is your hair today girl is going to a prom.

And talk about dress shopping! Although we live in a city of approximately 210,000 there is no decent shopping here. The next town over has a mall and we scoured that place and all we found were dresses that looked liked lingerie. It's actually a pretty crappy mall so we drove to Pleasanton (about 20 minutes away) and shopped there. We found the cutest dress, shoes, wrap and evening bag for her.

I guess I'm still in some type of shock that she is going to a dance. The whole time she has been in high school (and most of junior high) she has always marched to her own drummer. Now she's sort of going with the flow. As a mom I have to say that it was pretty cool shopping with her today. Her friends were shopping for the prom at their school (my daughter's school). Who knows....may my DD will decide to attend her own prom in May afterall.

    Well, one can dream.

Now, the tux is ordered for Senior Ball in two weeks (It's at San Francisco City Hall, in the Rotunda!), the Grad Night party is paid for, and we're waiting for the DL Grad Night tickets to go on sale.

Now, I've just got to get him over to the florist to pick out a corsage for his date.

She is too easy to shop for tho, her prom dress last year, we got at Ross for 29.99. (I'll post a pic) I think she's planning on recycling some cheapo dress she got at Forever 21 for prom this year. They have several (3?) fancy dances a year and she does have a few selections to choose from, most of which she's found on her own at thrift stores, or on sale somewhere.

It is fun to shop with them once in a while!

Well when we went to the thrift store, omg they had oodles of prom dresses there. Really nice ones and they were in perfect shape. I can understand this as most girls only wear them once( like those ghastly bridesmaid dresses) and then they hand in the closet forever until you find somehting to do with them. anwyays, I paid $22.00 for my DD's Winter Formal dress last year and she's wanting to go back to the thrift store ( wich she loooves to shop at anyways)to get her dress again this year for whatever is comming up next at the HS.

A little story about recycled hidious "fancy" dresses...
After my Ex-DH and I got divorced I had had my wedding dress boxed up in the closet just wasting space. I wasn't sure what to do with it as I didn't want DD to wear it when she ever got married for fear of "jinxing" her in any way.
    So,what to do with it?
Well, Halloween time came and Ol'Mumsy got a great idea!
I tacked that dress up in every spot I could think of so it would fit her and even dug out the head piece that went with it. We ratted her hair out and put scarey makeup on her and she went as a dead bride. (she was about 5 at the time)
omg she had so much fun and had so many people comment on her dress that she wore that thing even after halloween was over until it was just shredded completely. Then someonelse I knew wanted to be a dead bride for halloween several years later and they barrowed that dress. SO, who knows where that old thing is floating around at anymore, but it's fun to think of it out there giving others a fun time weaing it. It actually ended up bringing happiness to people after all.. Kinda ironic ain't it? LOL

*The X wanted to know where she got that dress cause it looked cool and when I told him his face dropped and he asked me "why would you do that to that dress?"
To wich my reply was "well, did you want it to wear instead?"
    ;-)

I only had to go through it once for oldest DD who had a "set up" group date and was just determined to find the perfect dress. Next came 2 boys who had to be nagged to get down to the tux store for the fittings, find out the color of the girls dress, order the corsages and no you can't order the cheapy pin on one, etc. Not sure which was worse :) Last DD went with friends to SF on a whim and phoned me that she found the perfect dress but it was a tad more than the price we agreed on. YES!!! I said, buy it!!!! Of course there is always some little drama during Prom but "we" survived :) Have fun with all your prom kids! It's a very exciting time. Next comes the wedding dress and tux :)

Come to think of it we had a bit of variety in how they went to Prom. 1st DD went with a group but all were sort of matched up with "dates." 1st Son had a girlfriend but they went with a large group of friends, again all with dates. 2nd son wasn't going to go but ended up going with a friend who's boyfriend was too old to attend, again with a couple of friends though. Last DD went with her girlfriends :)

I LOVED shopping for my prom. 999 didn't go to hers, and my mom was attacked by my grandmother and aunt on my dad's side for her proms (Jr and Sr) with my dad.

So, my mom got revenge on me for not being able to 1) dress herself for her prom and 2) dress my sister for hers.

I got to pick out ANY dress I wanted that made me happy. Mom had NO opinion and let me loose! Cha-ching!!! I had my long hair done up in braids with roses AND baby's breath in my hair. I was allowed to have my ears pierced (even though I was previously forbidden to do so), any shoes I wanted, accessories, etc... wheeeeeeeeeee!

Not only that, but I was given extra special permission to drive my sister's brand new convertible to the prom! WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Since she joined an All Star Cheer team about a year and a half ago she has become a little more "girly." I think she realized that the cheerleaders were pretty nice people and not all cookie-cutter girls. She still marches to her own drummer, prefers her kind of music to hip hop and wants to make documentary films about social injustice. I'm just so glad that I got to experience the prom shopping! : )
