At any rate, I love the artwork that is used with this board and am wondering if you know if it's ever been available as a poster? It's sort of sepia-toned, with all the engines represented at the bottom. I really wish it could have been included in the Disney Gallery offerings! Anyone know who the artist is?

There is an amazing amount of railroad related art available at the new Gallery exhibit that opened last Saturday on Main Street. I am working on a photo tour for here on LP.

Originally Posted By smd4 I'm not sure how many "overlays" were on this board over the years. Prior to this artwork, the board was comprised of a large overhead photo of the Park, with small lights along the main line showing the block signal locations, and intermittent lights along the route showing the location of the trains as they circled the Park. In the upper right, where the roundhouse is, was a plastic piece with four slots, where the crew could insert small tiles with the engine names on them, so folks would know which trains were in service on any particular day. It was neat being able to watch the various lights as they lit up and went out as the trains made their circuits. While the artwork is very cool (and, as Dug says--this was everyone first "view" of the Ward Kimball), it's not nearly as "railroady" as the original CTC board was. But I agree--that artwork should be available, like a railroad vesion of the regular Park maps.

Of course, that only shows the park itself, not the trains, and isn't sepia tone, and includes some other things in the drawings, but it's the same general background.

Originally Posted By velo >>But it's the sepia tone and the engine drawings that make it unique. << This! Actually, I like the park map on this one better than the regular map. Plus, our family really likes trains. Honestly, I would think they could even sell the "light-up" version at a special event like the one that's in the Gallery now. The lights would just circulate around the track. smd4 - I think they have kind of forgotten about it. I asked one of the conductors and she looked a little confused/surprised at first. Maybe it's so functional that they don't view it as a really neat piece of (poster) art. I'd urge anyone who's walking through the station to stop and take a look. I think you'll like it!
