A major country music star has come out as a gay woman.

In all seriousness, I admire her. This can't be easy with her fan base and that community. Admittedly, it's probably easier being an attractive gay woman than a gay man in that community, given the hypocrisy we show towards gay men vs lesbians. But it can't be easy for anyone whose livelihood depends in large part in appealing to a certain expectation.

It seems to work for KD Lang, no?

But that's the point I was trying to make: she furthered her career by getting out of that genre. Whether she specifically wanted to move on and cover new territory, I don't know. All I know is that she rarely got airplay in the country stations back home.
