They just love it when government is used for the stuff they like, such as violating the rights of women.

South Dakota recently passed a draconian anti-abortion bill that functionally repeals Roe v Wade. Oh sure, if you're rich, full of free time to waste, strong-willed, and don't mind having your privacy invaded by anti-abortion activists, you can still get an abortion in South Dakota. You can drive the seven or eight hours to the one clinic in the state that provides it, have unnecessary invasive procedures done, then listen to government scripted lectures on why abortion is wrong. And after that...you still can't have an abortion. No, you have to wait three days, then have more procedures done, then you have to visit an anti-abortion lecture held by an anti-abortion activist group (not your doctor).

All of this is legislated and mandated by government that Republicans seem to love so much. Of course, if you're a woman with two jobs and not a lot of money, it's out of reach for you. But fear not, if there's one thing Republicans love, it's single mothers who need state assistance to provide for their children. Besides, I doubt this will really be an issue: Republicans are really good about supporting birth control education and groups like Planned Parenthood to help prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place.

Even the most effective forms of contraception have a failure rate of around .5% Even if all of those people were having sex only once a year and using the most effective forms of contraception, you are still talking about 850,000 unintended pregnancies a year.

This matches the figure that 1 in four pregnancies in the US is unplanned, oddly enough.

Women are strong. Women can tell men to use protection. Women can use protection themselves. But statistics in this case represent real people, and those statistics show that no matter how effective contraception is, it isn't 100% effective.

ecdc is completely correct here. The GOP doesn't want big government when it comes to their money, but when it comes to telling other people how to live they want a government that is as big and powerful as anything that Stalin or Hitler would have dreamed of.

The Republicans in the US House just passed a bill last week that says which types of rape count. If a woman is drugged and then raped, for example, it does not count as rape as far as the rape exception to abortion restriction is concerned. It isn't about choice.

That is DISGUSTING and the GOP should be ashamed of themselves.

There are many states are passing bills require incredibly invasive procedures and require doctor's to read women a script before they can get an abortion. Republicans were "outraged" because the health care bill "would get between a patient and a doctor." Apparently they only care about that when the medical procedure is one they approve of.

    No you don't.

You only say so for political gain, playing off the feelings of religious people.

    That, too, is sickening.

Then don't get an abortion yourself. Telling a woman who was drugged and raped that her rape doesn't count is not protecting an innocent. It is punishing a victim for political gain.
