Sadly my favorite, Spaceship Earth, was closed for final tweaking before the official opening of the recent renovation. Here are my thoughts on what I saw: 1) Mission Space I know there are a lot of MS haters out there, but I still think this is probably Disney's single best attraction. In fact I would go as far as to say it is the best theme park attraction anywhere. Contrary to many opinions, I think the overall show is excellent and consists of far more than the spin in the centrifuge. I think the queue area with the cut-away space station and the mission control area is at least the equal if not better than most WDW queues. I also think that the two "preview and instruction" films do a good job of advancing the story and should be legitimately considered when looking at the ride duration. I see it as being very similar to the pre-show of Cranium Command. It is an integral part of the show, and the 'main even' would suffer considerably without it. 2) Test Track I loved my experience this trip because for the first time ever I experienced a “walk-on†at Test Track. The standby line was listed at 40 minutes, but I doubt it was more than 20 at most. The single-rider line was listed at 20 minutes and that is where I went… I usually do this one solo unless I can talk my wife into joining me, and this time I couldn’t do it. The single-rider line ended up being a walk-on. I went the whole way through the queue area, straight through the “briefing room†where they select the “Belgian Blocks†and do other hocus-pocus, and into the first car that arrived after I entered the boarding area. Excuse me for saying so, but WOO-FREAKING-HOO!!! Trying to look at the attraction with ‘fresh eyes’, I decided that it was really better than I usually give it credit for. It is somewhat educational (which I think all Epcot attractions should be) and provides a very good ride experience of relatively long duration. My major complaint would be that it seems that the whole Belgian Blocks, Regular Brakes, Anti-Lock Brakes, Roast Your Butt, Freeze Your Butt, Dissolve your Butt with Acid sequence looks like it is taking place in an abandoned warehouse. Do something with the setting/scenery to give that portion of the ride some context. Make those portions of the test that occur outdoors appear to be outdoors. Make those portions of the test that occur indoors look like they are happening in a test facility rather than an abandoned warehouse. But what can I say? The 65 mph on Test Track is the best 65 mph you will ever do!!
