It's great though being able to pick what you want to do an when but I did take my iPod and a book for meals/ long lines/ waiting for the parade, fireworks and fantasmic. I met a lot of other people there too, just people sitting by me who would strike up conversation which was nice too, lots of people at DL are happy to sit and talk Disney!

I stayed at the Howard Johnson just because I always have so I felt safe going back there.. It was affordable, the staff were so helpful and it's a reasonably safe walk too and from the park, though in August with lots of crowds I'm sure you'd be fine anywhere close by.

I travel by myself often, all around the US, the UK and Europe ( I'm from Australia) and I really love being able to plan the day just as you like.. Take advantage of the single rider system, hit the popular long line attractions early in the day ( good advice of you are traveling alone or not. The only other advice I give anyone traveling solo no matter where they go is- Do not get drunk. There is nobody to watch out for you and you don't want to do anything silly or feel sick. And if you're female, try not to declare you are travellig alone ( paranoid I know but better safe than sorry) if I'm not quite sure of the person I'm speaking too I'll make out my family is over at DCA but we areettimg up for lunch or I'm stayin with an Uncle nearby who has been to Disney too many times etc.. However if it's Nana and the grandkids, you probably don't have to be as cautious!

Oh, and the park was fun too!

I found that if I was in need of conversation I could sit on a bench somewhere and strike one up - I met lots of interesting people and had a great time.

It's definitely very different than going with friends or family, but it is what you make it! Have a blast!

I don't have a local bar in Dallas that I hang out in. But I really love spending time at the Uva Bar in Downtown Disney. I've met some very interesting people, and had some really fun conversations. Plus they make a great martini!
