TDO has abdicated all responsibity to build actual attractions.

And a new dark ride. And a new coaster. And probably Avatar.

I agree FLE isn't the most exciting thing in the world, but let's not intentionally leave out some of the stuff coming to WDW.

I really viewed this move on the part of SeaWorld to be a win for the consumer and for Florida residents in general.

In terms of new offerings and buzz? Sure.

Why are people talking about Disney? They aren't.

The VAST majority of the public doesn't give it much thought. The small percentage of the public that stews about these things are the irrationally passionate fans of Disney. And, frankly, Disney doesn't need to placate those folks.

We can debate these types of things forever but it isn't much different than the Trekkie debates of Original Star Trek vs Next Generation vs Voyager vs the movies.

Obviously. That's why maintenance has fallen off a cliff and continues its freefall.

    Not just WDW...
Why mention WDW as falling below standards in today's society?

I just stayed at a Hotel full of military people in uniform not using their trays to remove (complimentary) breakfast leftovers from the tables with people waiting for a place to sit and the single person working the breakfast free buffet line was working at full speed just to keep the food stocked. Really rude inconsiderate behavior is everywhere!

Maybe in the fanbois woirld they're not, maybe even in Orlando they're not.
But I can tell you I work with people up here constantly helping plan their WDW vacations- and they are all excited about going - families can't wait to go..and like more millions than traipse thru the turnstiles at your faves...that isn't changing.

Most of the people here have heard about the FL expansion- to them it sounds great. The majority of people who visit WDW are not theme park afficianado's- memorizing the ride systems that drive their attractions. They are taken aback by the latest Castle lighting show - they love the standards and the atmosphere. They visit once every 5 years or so - and most can't wait until the kids are old enough to go.

so what you say about the 'buzz' is very likely true- for a smaller segment of the population even remotely interested

doesn't mean I don't want new e tickets and upgrades as well- sure I do...but ripping WDW compared to the other parks has very little traction with most

    Yes.

On my recent cruise and my recent holiday to Japan. And not just at the TDR. For years here, before I went to America, there was this idea that service in the US was second to none. It was LEGENDARY.

I have to tell you, it was p*ss poor in most cases.

The Japanese levels of service are actually striking in how well you are treated. It is PHENOMENAL.

"Are you willing to pay for First Class service everywhere?"

    Yes.

I am also VERY happy to pay for the privilege of not being with the herd. I refuse to fly Virgin, Jetstar or any of the other el cheapo airlines because, quite frankly, I find the class of people and their unruly, misbehaved offspring that fly them to simply be beyond the pale.

I will HAPPILY fork out a few hundred more so I am not surrounded by Barry and Beryl from Balga with their sweaty BO and obnoxious ways.

I'm talking industry and critics. When was the last time WDW had the press talking?

In my travels, I have seen military personnel be rude and crude, especially US GIs. Not a great measuring stick.

I always get excellent customer service with Marriott and crowne plaza, always. Same too with Frankie and Benny's, john Lewis Partnership and Macys. I do not go to Walmart as it is the antithesis.

The CUSTOMERS at Wal-mart can be rather... well.... interesting to say the least. But I must say I have always received good customer service at Wal-mart. Of course I never shopped there until I move to SW Missouri, and sales staff here generally seem to have a much more customer-oriented attitude that those in the Minneapolis area.
