However since Disney has to pay licence fees for Avatar, they could have used another IP as well, like Star Wars or more of Indiana Jones. Back then both IPs didn't belong to TWDC, but these two franchises are more timeless than Avatar, at least in my opinion.

Look at the Great Movie Ride. How many people remember Jimmy Cagne or appreciate the Tarzan and Casablanca scenes? And while I love Beauty and The Beast the show seems a little long in the tooth at this point. As for Avatar, I hope that despite one thinks of the movie that the addition of the land is the first step of many to add experiences to the beautiful park. I expect that the area will look great since Joe does atmosphere well. I hope that the rides are great. If Disney was smart it would continue to build attractions that would help make this park a longer and later in the day park. Adding a night time show in the lake would be a great step. Next I would love to see them embrace the mythical monsters in some way. And lastly I would love Disney to step up to the plate and fix the Yeti. I know it isn't that big a deal but having seen the Yeti in all of its original glory (and it was truly impressive), it would be great for Disney to take some pride and do the right thing and get it back working.

It's the history of movies and those were and still are some of the greatest. We tend to remember Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz because we have been exposed to them much more often. The purpose was not to be current. There could be a few that might replace some of the older less remembered ones, like Godfather, for example or Star Wars instead of Ms. Weaver whose animatronic has aged as badly as she has, but for the most part any movie in there will, by design, be older then the vast majority of the riders. That's how it was imagined.
