For years they quietly relied on these crazy people to shore up the base, to energize the group, and to get out votes. Whatever you say about them, they are passionate, vocal, and they take action. They do not just sit around posting on the internet. But now, it's come back to bite them. Now, people are getting a glimpse of the racism and the ignorance that drives these people. People are watching them stand up in town halls and scream, "Keep government out of my Medicare!" They're watching them insult Latinos, and their thinly-veiled racism towards Obama. It's what some of us have been saying all along on these boards (and have been mocked and criticized for, BTW) - that the crazies are a huge, driving force in the Republican party. The proof is before our eyes the last six months.

Originally Posted By ecdc >>Crazy answers will obviously be acceptable for the purposes of this query.<< I would've thought that was obvious. Some important points: Hitler said he was a socialist. One of his names also starts with a vowel. Hitler was also born out of the United States, just like Obama. Also wrote a book as part of his rise to power. Obama supporters, as part of their bid to tyrannize America, secretly shout, "Heil Obama!" and salute at their televisions and computers whenever they see Barack - Der Fuhrer. Obama is secretly rounding up conservatives and putting them in concentration camps. I know this because Glenn Beck, crazy person, said so. Hitler had two adorable girls that melted Germany's heart. Unbeknownst to the American public, Obama actually has a toothbrush mustache, however, its' covered in prosthetics and makeup anytime he's in public.

I know it's the popular Republican response, but the evidence doesn't support it one iota. Several Republican Congressmen criticized Rush Limbaugh, only to recant and apologize later. How many Democrats have done that with Moore? Republican leaders are routinely interviewed and appear on Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck. Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck routinely egg these people on. What's the equivalent of that on the left? There's no reports or evidence of rabid left-wingers disrupting meetings. The moral equivalency argument is nonsense. We've been over this time and time again, and the facts showing that the rabid right wing is much more vocal, influential, and involved in Republican politics than the rabid left wing. But the same tired arguments pop up with clockwork predictability anytime someone dares criticize the Republicans for tolerating these psychos.

Fox News, Hannity, Limbaugh, Glenn beck -- they all enjoy huge ratings. I'd like to believe they don't speak for a majority of Republicans, and I've said that many times here. But honestly, I am starting to wonder if that's just my own wishful thinking. Where's the backlash from the fair-minded, principled conservatives out there? How long are they going to let these runaway trains shape the public image of the GOP? Even on here, Limbaugh is always defended in whatever he says.

We just get "Blah blah blah, both parties do it, blah blah blah. No analysis, no proof, no evidence. If it's just that obvious, where is it?

And the irony of a man who prides himself on his loyal following of "dittoheads" comparing people to Hitler is rich indeed.
Originally Posted By ecdc >>At worst, you'll get a chuckle and "oh, that's just Rush being Rush" type comment. No accountability.<< Right. And they're positively schizophrenic about whether Rush, Hannity, Beck, et al are serious commentators or "just entertainers." When they're pushing the talking points and agenda, they're serious, thoughtful commentators. When they're outlandish and unhinged, they're "entertainers." Curious definition the GOP has of "entertainment." Apparently racism, comparing the President to Hitler, misogyny, demonizing people for their beliefs and opinions, and hoping the President fails is knee-slapping, rip-roaring good fun in the Republican party. I know whenever I hear someone say the President is putting people in concentration camps and advocating the death of old people vis a vis healthcare reform, I'm more entertained than I ever could be at Disneyland.

Say what you will about Michael Moore, where is evidence that 30-40 of his supporters are attending meetings around the country with the purpose of completely preventing meaningful dialog from occurring within the meeting. They organize petitions, they march on the street, they hold rallies of their own. But do they go into a room and whenever someone speaks against what they believe, shout them down so no one else in the room can hear? Here is an example from yesterday. Also it is hosted by Daily Kos the clips are from local Tampa news station. http://www.dailykostv.com/w/002028/ And then how do you handle this? If the police are called, you know what happens. They complain about their civil rights are violated because they should have the right to be heard.

BTW - I do find Michael Moore makes some excellent points and he is very entertaining too. However, we all know how biased he is, and he is not a democrat. He lost faith in them a long time ago sadly.
