If I had to guess, I'd say that Duffy replaced Santa; what's Christmas without the latest merchandise push? And for what it's worth, they often have characters in the 'wrong' place. Since the parade is an amalgam of the DL and WDW events, they can't have the characters make multiple appearances since there's only one Cinderella, Mickey, Santa, etc. I'm assuming that the 'surprise' ending isn't any sort of actual news, but rather some sort of 'interesting' production choice

Disney and Star Wars have been intertwined for years, and it seems like the official acquisition was a long time coming; with Star Tours (and the updated version) and the annual Star Wars Weekends, it only makes sense to include the franchise in the parade for advertising. Assuming Santa is the finale of the DL part of the broadcast (and not completely skipped over), how is this anything new and terrible? Plus, it was established long ago that Christmas exists in the Star Wars universe, so why can't they be in the Christmas parade?
