Interesting. I am also baffled. But not satisfied. In fact, I'm disappointed.

    Just goes to show ya...

I also run a discussion group although its a health one and we do not get into any confrontational discussions. I do not have any problems whatsoever, however we deal in serious health issues. It has come to our attention by the members that they never want to use their real names as a future employer could Google their names and find out personal information on them.

This could have similar repercussions as any information that is posted never gets deleted completely. The right people can always retrieve information.

I am assuming that the moderators of LP also have to protect themselves, their site and many of the posters from any possible future legal confrontations.

You are living in the US a country with high legal prosecutions. One person unhappy with a discussion can threaten to sue for monetary damages and or cease and desist orders.

I assume what happened with jonvn yesterday was "the straw that broke the Camel's back".

I as many are stunned, but like they've stated they have their reasons.

The answer is that we won't be told the specifics to both protect the poster's privacy and to protect LP from the many questions and fallings-out that would happen if they did list the reasons why.

At least that's my take on it.

    He most certainly did not.

And considering you're one of the mods, and a religious type to boot, this situation is not all that surprising DOUG.

He has every right to his opinion.

Once again, there's nothing in the community standards that speaks to religious opinions.

But that sure is what it has come down to.

Doug is not one of the mods. He writes for LP but has no say over anything on the discussion boards.

Mr X you know I like you but you've crossed the line here.

    Let it go.

Doobie's come on now twice or has it been three times now to explain his decision. I appreciate the timeliness in which it was done this time. Much healthier approach. Thank you Doobie. I know I've been one of your sharper critics about this.

While I've never hit report to moderator on jonvn or anyone else for thier opinion I have to say in my opinion he stretched the boundaries of civility even for a discussion board.

Am I happy or sad to see him go? Not really. It was explained to us all here a long time ago with another episode similar to this that LP will keep ticking no matter what value we think we have here. So I no longer get worked up about who's here and who's not. I just post to those that are participating on that particular day and leave it like that.

I will say just like in the past with others in WE, it becomes boring to read and participate when every thread becomes the rerun opinions of a few who keep expounding their positions in ways that do not favor debate and derailing thread after thread.

As noted in post #120, I am satisfied that there was good reason for the action taken. That was the context of my statement.

    >>And considering you're one of the mods...<<
As noted in post #127, I am not a Moderator, nor have I ever been. Nor do I carry any particular weight with the Mods.

    >>...and a religious type to boot...<<
If I, or any other members of this community were to preface a complaint about you with the statement that you were "not a religious type," we wpuld, quite rightly, be accused of bigotry.

    >>Once again, there's nothing in the community standards that speaks to religious opinions.<<
Quite so. There is nothing to be said about ANY opinions in the Community Standards. Opinions are the coin of the realm in all of the discussion boards. There is a great deal that is said, however, about tolerance and respect for the opinions of others. Specifically:

    >>6. NO FIGHTING: Please be polite to all posters on the Discussion Boards. Mean spirited messages and exchanges will be deleted at the administrators' discretion. We also ask that you don't unnecessarily antagonize others, and don't represent yourself as another person. Also, do not post any material that is defamatory, infringing, obscene, violates the legal rights of others. And remember, you can be held legally liable for what you write.

    7. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS: Personal attacks against anyone - other posters, public figures, names in the news - anyone, is not allowed on LaughingPlace.com<<
