Yes, Disney now has more ownership of the Star Wars movies, but I'm not exactly holding my breath on this one. Plus, if this does in fact take over the Muppet/HISTK area, that means it would also take over the Streets of America. With Carsland causing the removal of the tram tour, these two projects would effectively eliminate the park's "backlot" areas. While the guise of a working movie studio is long gone, I think the backlot really adds a lot to the park; without it, it's really no different than a franchise-centric version of MK with a poor layout. And I agree with Tasha that it seems very unlikely that we'll see 3 projects of this scale going on simultaneously. Then again, I'm still calling their bluff on Avatarland.

The original rumor from Theme Park Insider had this bundled with a new Carsland expansion. That was the thing that made the rumor suspicious. I just don't think that Disney is going to do two big expansions at the Hollywood Studios at one time. I might accept one or the other but not both. Part of me thinks that Carsland would be more likely because it has already been engineered out and such making it a cheaper addition. On the other side I think that Disney could be positioning itself before the release of the next Star Wars movie and the popularity of Star Wars Weekends cannot be denied. So I guess I will put my ear to the ground with my friends in Imagineering and see what they have to say

Hopefully the execs are happy enough to have this for their Florida resort for a while. And if it eventually comes to Anaheim, it will be a way off - leaving Tomorrowland in DL ALONE! And do something when they eventually get around to a 3rd Gate. And this does not sound like an expansion to the park at all. Sounds like they would take things out - in order to fit this in. So, I'm not calling it an "Expansion" .. but more a "Replacement" to existing public access areas. And I do find it disappointing they want to add Cars Land. They already have it in Anaheim. Making it unique to their west coast resort - is a big incentive to get east coast people to visit the west coast more often. And vice-versa to get westcoast people to visit a larger Star Wars section on the eastcoast.

If they take out those attractions to the west of Star Tours, that must mean, they are passed their prime - and ready to replace them. Yeah ... Muppet Vision has been around for a while. A bit long in the tooth. But what about this Lights/Camera stage show? Is that loosing it's popularity?

Not to the same level as this possibility, but still. Also, I will cry the day Muppet Vision 3D closes. I will go the last day and do it as many times as possible.

I think it is a pretty decent show, but only take the time to watch it every two or three visits.

Originally Posted By FerretAfros >>Just had a look at google earth above DHS, I don't understand why they don't just expand the park out ... south of Star Tours.<< From what I've heard, the area opposite the parking lot entrance road and toll plaza is a protected wildlife area, so Disney is very limited in what they can do there. This further supports the idea that they placed the Studios park in the worst location possible in the resort (surrounded on 2 sides by major roads, and a wildlife reserve on the 3rd) However, I've also heard long-standing rumors that they're going to rework the parking lot entrances. As it's designed, the entrance from the south is the main entrance, catching people who are coming to WDW in the morning. However, the entrance from the north recieves a lot more traffic these days, with folks who are park hopping and arriving from the hotels (in buses and cars). Theoretically, they would expand the toll plaza from the north to increase its capacity, and they could narrow the one at the south. By narrowing it down to a handful of lanes, instead of the 10-12+ they have now, and keeping to the 'outside', this would give them a nice little strip of land that could be incorporated into an expansion/redo of that area of the park
