I still visit occasionally, but I rarely click anymore. And suddenly, the sky stopped falling and the apocalypse didn't happen. HuffPo, my once beloved source of left-wing news, is all that's wrong with our 24-hour instant news cycle. I would pull my hair out, get drunk, explore immigrating to Brazil, all over headlines and stories that meant, ultimately, nothing. "SHOCK: [Insert Republican Name Here] Said [Insert Appallingly Offensive Thing Here]." It turns out the Huffington Post is outraged that politicians play politics and pander to the lowest common denominator. I really don't know if I've ever read a story that didn't make me wish I had a cyanide pill handy. And their whacko pseudoscientific quack health section? Downright dangerous, friends.

My title's in jest, of course. Maybe you're stronger than me. It's still in my bookmarks and I still visit and read the occasional story. But I find myself rolling my eyes more often than not.

I've always been pretty selective with HuffPo anyway (and I've already ranted about how bananas their health coverage drives me), but I concur with your advice. I might even do a better job of practicing it, now that you mention it.

Besides, Frum Forum has gotten much better than HuffPo at keeping up with the latest stupid things that Winky has said. http://www.frumforum.com/palin...n-budget (Read the comments. They're priceless.)

    Just sayin...

Everyone always pays attention to *those* "famous" people, but we've got a community of folks here who, collectively, know just as much as they do if not more.

    Just a thought.

Arianna Huffington has always been a curiosity to me. Here in California, Michael Huffington was a former Bush/Reagan GOP politico who ended up being a one term Congressman here in the early 90's. He then spent a then unheard of $28M trying to buy the U.S. Senate seat eventually won by Diane Feinstein in 1994. He was creamed by her. After that, his life went a different direction. He had married Arianna in 1986 but divorced her in 1997. He came out as gay in 1998. Michael was born into money, and Arianna got a LOT of it.

Out of the rubble of their divorce and Arianna's penchant for wanting to be heard anyway, Huffington Post was born. While Arianna was a writer before she married Michael, I've always felt if she had married who she did, we likely would have been largely spared her presence everywhere.

Yeah, me too. It was never a regular stop for me, though I've clicked links to it occasionally.

The Nation is my "go-to" lefty source. Old, well-established, scrupulous journalistic methods, and (usually, at least) a calm and reasoned tone.

At least when people lose or fail, or something bad happens, it's just sports; it doens't make me question my citizenship or wonder why human beings suck so much. (Or think about impending natural disasters.)

I agree with you on The Nation Dabob2...That is one of the news sources I really like.

In retrospect it should've been quickly obvious. But outrage is a powerful emotion and I've gone through barrels of it the last couple of years.

    >>Um okay.<<

YMMV. I just posted this because a few different folks seem to link to HuffPo fairly regularly, suggesting at least a few of us read it. It's certainly not HuffPo's job to protect me from myself...just sharing my personal story is all.
