The trash remained in the atrtraction day after day. I recall a thread concerning this problem last year and eventually Splash Mountain received an rehab and the problem was rectified.

On a recent visit to Splash Mountain I noticed people are sticking their used wads of gum all over the place. The first scene after Slippin Falls has gum everywhere. Unfortunately the gum hadn't been cleaned up during our week long visit. I hate to complain but I can't stand it when people have no respect for other people's property and diminish the experience for everyone else. No wonder Disney doesn't sell gum in their parks.

Some of the trash is in such odd and inaccessible places, too. There was this one box on Big Thunder Mountain that I'm still wondering about.

The thing that bugged me most was trash floating in the Rivers of America. I mean, what are people thinking? How do they expect the CM's to clean that up? (Come to think of it, how *do* they clean it up?)

The problem is its not just the guests.

The Disney execs who cut custodial budgets to meet quotas and earn bonuses are self-centered swine as well. And, ultimately, it's their fault. They are the business owners. They need to clean up messes as soon as they happen to avoid the masses pack/pig instincts to litter and trash the parks.

People were absolute pigs back in the 1970s ... anyone remember people just heaving refuse out their car windows? But DL and WDW looked pristine back then.

I EXPECT and DEMAND the same today.

In 05' I rode Buzz and the queue looked like a war zone with trash everywhere and soda spilled on the floor, it was disgusting.

I agree that budget cuts have clearly contributed to this problem but people in general should have some respect. Unfortunately it will never be like it was 20 years ago but I thought this visit was leaps and bounds better than my visits in 05'.

As to '06 being better than '05, I think it's very subjective.

It literally depends on park, day of visit, time of visit, level of crowds etc ... sometimes I've been pleasantly surprised. Epcot was extremely clean on July 4th for example.

    But it does vary tremendously.

Disney was always consistent in cleanliness ... much like safety ... show qualiy ... CMs etc ... now, it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna git!

Well, maybe I'm just a crazy person who life has passed by. Maybe I'm just dumb and not willing to accept that everyone will accept a WalMart quality product.

    But I don't think so.

There's no reason but utter corporate greed and incompetence as to why WDW isn't as clean as it was 20 years ago.

    None.

I do remember this, it is the time when they raised littering fees on highways like 10 fold.

We should never accept "Walmart type quality" from Disney and I'm sure that's why so many people read and write posts here and in so many other places.

    No. We shouldn't.

I have no intention of ever doing so. And, no, I don't feel it's hopeless in the least. As a matter of fact, I'm optimistic about what the future may hold.

But sometimes you need to turn the pressure up ... or confront people in public forums where they really don't want the attention.

When you watch it now, you think, what sweeping people?

    How sad.

This is just a bit strong. C'mon now.

There have been budget cuts in custodial areas and I even agree that they've gone too far in those cuts.

However, "utter corporate greed and incompetence" makes it sound like they get pleasure out of it.

If such people exist at Disney, I've never met them.

I agree with ssWEDguy here-- there is penny pinching going on to be sure...but utter greed..I doubt the bottomline is THAT affected by this...couple that with the fact people seem to be pigs now... and yes it is a recipe for lowered manitenance standards than we were used to and I'd also like to see that area improved.
