Come on, how many of these stories do we need to hear before people finally wake up to the fact that SOME cops (for Passholder) need better training and understanding about how it is or is not appropriate or even necessary to use those things.

Originally Posted By dshyates "But there's no way in hell this broad brushes all police officers," No it doesn't. I am a news photog, and I interview cops everyday. So I know MANY honorable cops. In the small town police (Beckley, WV), in the local County Sheriff's dept. and the WV State Troopers are the finest in the nation in my opinion. "which is certainly the intent here in this thread." Ummm, NO. What do you call 2 noids? "Well, everyone can feel real neato about calling the cops names" They frickin' tased a DEAD guy. TWICE. A DEAD guy they made a DEAD guy. Insert personal attack regarding SPP's intellect here.

OK, I made a typo, which I acknowledged and corrected way before your oh so clever response. Ohhhh, you are sooooo smart.
Originally Posted By dshyates " The alleged "challenge" to do so here is as transparent as it gets." It just that some here have defended the cops regardless of the facts. Your defensiveness now tells me you are at a loss as to how to defend their actions this time. Even though I sure you you would if it wasn't so obviously indefensible.

Oh, and by the way, I love you stereotyping of southerners and rural cops. I guess big city cops are all on the up and up. Oh wait, read this: http://www.thehighroad.org/sho...?t=41128

Well, considering the intellect shown here on your part, no need to go any further with intelligent conversation. You've missed the point I was making completely, which is there was no defending this, so why would anyone want to try? You obviously wanted to fight in this thread, but you're not getting one from me. As for the sterotyping, you bet bet your sweet ass I was. Using bad behavior by jerkwater cops as a way of showing how all cops abuse tasers? Go away. And don't even start with me of all people about being friends with cops. So yes, bad cops with tasers=bad things happen. Point's been made.
Originally Posted By dshyates "Using bad behavior by jerkwater cops as a way of showing how all cops abuse tasers?" No one said that. And that is not what I was trying to prove. I have said that twice, three times now that I had to say it again. I am in no way trying to say that all cops abuse tasers. You keep trying to say that I want to paint ALL cops as taser happy. Where the hell are you getting that. I talk to many cops everyday that I know ARE NOT taser happy. As a matter of fact NONE of the cops I know are taser happy. So to clear things up, I am not saying ALL cops abuse tasers. How much clearer can I be? I am saying that given the "non-lethal" perception of tasers SOME cops may use them inappropriately, because they are percieved as non-lethal. Re-education through retraining with the devices may be needed. But your perception of cops in Southern rural areas is just plain wrong. Who's painting who with a broadstroke brush. Inappropraite use of force isn't strictly a "jerkwater" problem as I pointed out with my link to the problems they have had in Denver, CO. Unless you consider a metro area of 2.5 million people "jerkwater".

Originally Posted By Mr X ***does anyone believe the % of bad cops to the population of police is larger than the % of bad people in the general population ?*** Absolutely, I believe this. ***my 2 cents is I don't think so at all*** I would have to disagree with you. Consider this...WHY do people become cops? For the money? The glamor? To "help people"? Sure...some do for those reasons (or just for a paycheck that might be slightly higher than some other job like McDonalds, with not much more qualifications or educational background needed). But what is the APPEAL? I would submit that the appeal is in the power. And power corrupts. Why would anyone want to be a cop? Sure, SOME do it because it's noble, and they're helping people, and serving the community. Others do it just because it's a convenient job to take with stable benefits and not much chance of downsizing. Others (many others imho) take it because they can throw their weight around in some minor way day by day. Have any of you guys ever TALKED to cops or dealt with them? How many did you find to be nice, polite, kind individuals? I've met some polite, kind individuals. But far more folks who are full of themselves and enjoying their minor "Position of Power". And I'm just talking about speeding and traffic tickets here! ***the police population is a microcosm of society in general*** Meh. I don't think so.
