This is simply an embarrassing effort to cash in on a popular villainous character, but the writers here took Maleficent's mean spirited soul and turned it to mush. Can't fault Jolie. She does the best she can and actually comes thru when Maleficent needs to be mean. The CGI characters are a distraction no one here needs, and for the most part they only serve the purpose of dragging the storyline to boring haults. All in all wait for this movie to be in the bins on dvd. Or get the 3D blue ray when it comes out if you must have it. In the meantime, stay away and withdraw your money from this effort and by doing so, send the message to Disney that you are not interested in seeing familiar characters we love be distorted and revised for the pursuit of the mighty summer blockbuster dollar, which this movie isn't. You want to see a real monster movie which retains the heart and soul of the original 60 years ago, then see the new GODZILLA. TDLFAN gives "Maleficent" a D-.

Did I miss something? I kinda liked it but kept thinking about Avatar creatures with all the CGI and then I was mad at myself for thinking about how much I am going to dislike Avatarland while trying to watch a Disney movie! Because I decided I was not going to criticize Disney anymore after admitting I was royally wrong about Olaf and the new Snow White adaptation in Fantasyland starring the 7 Dwarfs

ORWEN: As a result of that, they cheat themselves out of a fun time. ORDDU: The worst thing I have to say about MALEFICENT is the way they treated the 3 good fairies--making them out to be too self-centered and idiotic to be as loveable as Flora, Fauna and Merryweather were. ORWEN: But, then, what else would you expect from a liar like Maleficent? You can't trust her version of anything! ORDDU: In the same way that the Wicked Witch of the West worked so hard to make everyone believe she was the good witch instead of Glinda, Maleficent would have us all believe that she's really an innocent victim, too. ORWEN: But don't believe it, ducklings! She's just as mean as you always thought. She just wants to deceive you all! ORDDU: Fortunately you're smarter than that. So we'd advise you to just let yourselves enjoy her little work of fiction while keeping in mind that the REAL Prince Phillip can still offer a more dynamite kiss than they allowed him to in this live action version.

I don't mind being fed this rule of magic if it is true but don't think JKR should be given that much power to dictate if this is the source. Unfortunately my only source for evil and villains is Disney. I never thought about all the nuances of evil before just accepted Disney's fairytale world and the dark side without realizing the villains had legal obligations.

What has been anybody else's observations?<<< I didn't notice any particular group in numbers watching this movie but I can tell you that my take is that Disney intended this movie for the little girls and their parents who are willing to spend big money at the BBB boutique, which is why the main character was sanitized and robbed from being the meanest of mistresses of all evil. And while Godzilla may have sucked to some of you, it is still a much better movie with action sequences and a more true to the original feel than this Maleficent turkey really feels. But like someone else mentioned.. it's all in the opinion of each individual. Me? I don't care for it. Munificent is just a scorned woman out for revenge from the man who did her in. And forgets thru the movie that her powers are bigger than her messed up head is, and doesn't put them to use. And one more thing.. Fauna, Flora and Merriweather are the three most odd and annoying characters here. King Stephan was the only interesting character for being an unpredictable mess. And Prince Phillip, being one of the most gallant and handsomely drawn characters in the classic line of Disney animated movies is reduced here to being played by some kid straight out of High School Musical, hormonal and totally boring. The whole thing stinks of PC correctness for the 21st century and not in a good way. I would go see Godzilla again.
