I really hate writing a trip report so long after my trip. I have forgotten some and will get things out of order. But things got really hectic when we got home. I will start by saying that in spite of what happened on our 3rd day; we are all fine. This was a pretty long trip with lots of people so I will try to stick to the highlights.
We headed out on Tuesday evening in our motorhome. We stopped about three hours out to sleep for the night and got to our RV park Wednesday morning where we met up with my high school friend.
We all walked to the Park together for a relaxing evening. There would not be much relaxing on this trip. Our daughter, husband and three children were coming Thursday morning. We drove the RV to the Park Thurs. as we had groceries and things to take to them in their hotel. We went to DCA and low, there was a short FP line for RSR. We got in it. I texted my daughter and asked if they could get to DCA fast. Well, of course, there was no way she would come into DCA first. They had to go to Disneyland and ride the carousel. It is the first and last thing they do every trip.
So, we got our FP’s and went to meet them.
The children did not know we were coming. (Like we would ever let our grandkids go to the Parks without us.) They were walking down Main Street toward the castle so we were just going to come up behind them. Well, Stephanie was there with her yellow car so we hopped on. They had just gotten to the hub as we came around in front of the Castle so we started waving and saying, “Welcome to Disneyland” until they realized it was us. Great reaction especially from 5yo Kiera.
So, that started our trip with the Foxes and on to King Arthur’s Carousel. So much for making a long story short! But it was a great morning. Later, after many attractions, they were heading to their hotel to check in. We took Morgan with us as we were gonna meet them with their stuff. So, let me tell you, IF YOU HAVE A TALL VEHICLE; DO NOT DRIVE INTO THE TROPICANA!!!!!! The parking attendant let us in. He even moved cones for us. He did not tell us we would not be able to get out. The exit is much too low. We were mortified as we blocked traffic looking for the attendant so he could move some valet parked cars to give us room to go out the entrance. We apologized profusely to the folks trapped behind us and they were actually very compassionate knowing it was not our fault. We finally got out and made our way down Harbor to the RV park to fix some lunch. We had finished lunch and were just pulling out onto Harbor when Rod’s voice choked as he said, “There are no brakes!!!” He was able to get it to stop by really mashing down on them. Kind of like trying to stop a streetcar by pulling on the bumper. We were able to get it back into its spot very carefully and, unwilling to let a little thing like that interrupt our vacation, we walked to the Park to meet the family. The hardest thing was to shake those awful thoughts of “what could have happened.” We also had a bit of a dark cloud over our heads thinking about how hard this was going to hit our bank account. Still, we were at Disneyland and not about to let it be ruined. Especially since we had been so lucky not to get hurt nor to hurt anyone else. (A thought that still haunts us.)
This was Friday and we could not get service until Monday so went about our business; having to walk the .7M to the Park every day. Since our daughter’s hotel was right across the street; we were able to go there in the afternoons for a cooldown and rest.
There was also the worry of, "what if they have to keep the RV a day or two?" Will we have to rent a car, get a hotel, lose what we had already paid for? We vowed to do whatever it took and have fun.
    Part2 tomorrow
