The kids discover that something allows their minds to take over their hologram forms and visit the parks after closing. It turns out that creatures called Overtakers have, well, overtaken the animatronic figures and are plotting to use their new forms to take over the world. Yeah, I know, odd concept. It's up to these kids to stop the nefarious plans of the Overtakers and their leader Maleficent, using a secret weapon prepared by Walt Disney. To be honest, it's not Shakespeare, but it was fun reading. It's geared toward 10-12 year olds. The kids basically have the run of, primarily, the Magic Kingdom. And all of the animatronics have been taken over by evil. Easy to visualize the Pirates of the Caribbean when they're absconding with Buzz Lightyear Blasters, but the creepiest aspect (for me) involved It's a Small World. Interesting to see the parks presented this way, but the concept is rather dark.

We both liked it a lot and had a great discussion about it after which for the most part besides trying recall books I read almost 20 years ago when I was her age doesn't happen very often! And we're both right there with you eww4 about the IASW scene. I'm already not a big fan and I don't think I'll ever be able to get in one of those boats again without thinking about that part. Overall I think while its technically a young adult book any fan of the Disney parks would enjoy it. The whole idea of being the MK after hours is too fun!
