I know you can burn the flag but I didn't think that included one that didn't belong to you.

    Can't say I'm really surprised.

a perfect example- there is a video of an off duty chicago police officer ( 275 pounds worth) - beating the crapola out of a young 95 pound woman bartender here in Chicago, making the national news over the past week or so.

He was arrested for assault & battery - that was the real reason. Yet every headline reads he beat up a woman...

same difference, and if one feels there is no difference between burning let's say the home owners newspaper vs his flag, or no difference beating up a young girl vs. someone his own size -- you're kidding yourself.

Home, car, book, rose bush, it is all private property and shouldn't have been destroyed.

That is a LOT different than buying something and then deciding to destroy it yourself. That is your choice, what the Yale students did was steal someone ELSE's stuff and destroy it. And why they should be placed in front of a Judge and be punished.

My point was only that it seemed to me the article was trying to make these idiots into victims somehow by trying to make it look like their civil rights had been violated for being arrested for flag burning. It even mentions in the article that the supreme court ruled it was legal to burn a flag... It just seemed to be a slanted headline to me, that's all.

I think we both view the overall event from the same point of view.

Only US citizens hold an ethical licence to burn a US flag inside the US.

I don't really care if people burn a flag or not. To me it seems like getting mad about flag-burning is just giving the people the attention they want.

Of course, stealing someone else's property is wrong no matter what you do with it.

wasn't that awful ? And the one weenie with the cell phone - the reason she got beat up was she jumped in between him and the off duty cop in a disagreement to try and stop it - and when she is getting her brains beat in - he runs out the door....

just the kind of 'man' I hope my daughter brings home -- :-(

the p.s. on this is that cops brother has just been arrested for assault and battery ( again on tape ) in another bar incident. He is also a Chicago Cop.

Getting re-enactments of the 1968 convention daily now -

Out here in SoCal we had a case where some college students ran a shopping cart up a flag pole overnight. The next morning when the store employee came out to put up the flag the shopping cart fell on her and very badly, permanently injured her. There are pranks and there are malicious mischief.

It is not a defensible use of free speech.

No comment from me. The story speaks for itself.

The first time I was in a certain southern city that shall remain nameless (since I don't know it well and I don't want to brand everyone there the same way), I saw a bumper sticker that just floored me. It said

What Made America Great: God, Guns, and White People.
