Hint to the Imagineers and anyone else reading this: No Iago. No Zazu. NO LILO AND STITCH. Keep the present, unexpanded cast or face the wrath of the rain gods. The great Tiki God Mawnck has spoken. Mawncka mawncka mawncka mawncka MAWNCK! Unhh!

A new show with songs that are memorable are important!

In 20 years ... I can only think of two melodies in dozens to hundreds of Disney attractions, shows, etc ..,.. that are memorable like a Rogers and Hammerstien tune - Soarin' and "Fantasmic". All the rest ... crap!

Can you remember the ending of the Holiday Fireworks show at DL? Everyone can remember the Christmas song melodies spread out through the show .... but can you honestly say - the theme song for the show is hummable?

If you can't .... write back, and say ... "Does Disney have the right talent to produce new songs in new attractions that will be remembered for new generations to come?"

Until then .. they can leave Tiki Room alone!

Twice ... in the last 2 weeks back in SoCal ... I absolutely loved old favorite Christmas songs .. written by Greats .. decades and centuries ago! The minute the main theme song is inserted .... It's the pure opposite! I might as well listen to Pumbah fart! It's the same! Absolutely awful! They just threw together this modern dreck .... that was just a shear contrast to the wonderful old Christmas melodies. It's proof to me ...... Disney does not have the talent to write songs ... that will stand the test of time - like the original Tiki Room show!

The sooner that awful theme song from the Christmas Fireworks show is gone .. the happier I will be!

Sure. The Sherman Brothers also wrote for the movies, of course - why not get Alan Menken, or Michael Giacchino (with lyricist if necessary). Keep the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room as a "unifier" (and nostalgia) and go from there. Both Menken and Giacchino know how to write something that sounds timeless.

I'm totally with you on most of the things written for the parks lately for the live shows - dreary syrupy dreck about "wishes" and "magic" sung in generic princess voice that makes me want to hurl. But Disney does have major talent in its stable if they want to use it.

<A new show, in keeping with the spirit and format of the old show, would be good. >

I agree. Perhaps they could even keep the old one and run it two days a week for the diehards or something.

(Which raises the question: do they still have the old room-sized 1963 computers running the thing? Or did they update that?)

It always make me nervous ... there are these little "committee meetings" within Burbank of Glendale. They'll sing off on something THEY THINK is just the bee's knees ... but outside their little bubble ... the public will find it mediocre!

So, I'm always careful what I wish for.

I believe that 9 month rehab... prior to the 50th took care of that.

Ugh, I hate that song so much. I'm always amazed at how awful the woman's voice is. While on-key, she still makes some very strange noises.

Dang, now I have it in my head. Yuck.

I'd like to add the theme from Illuminations: Reflections of Earth to that list as well. I know that it was written by someone (Gavin Greenaway) hired by Disney for the occasion, rather than using one of the 'regulars', but I still think it counts. And depending how far back you want to go, many of the original EPCOT Center songs are certainly hummable (just try and tell me you didn't get One Little Spark stuck in your head after riding the original Journey Into Imagination)

The World of Color theme is a great example of this, where it's only used at the show's very beginning and very end (originally there was a single strain of it between April Shower and Hellfire/Bald Mountain, but it got cut from the show when they redid the Pirates segment), leaving it to be somewhat forgettable, despite being a very memorable and iconic song. The theme from Fantasmic! on the other hand is woven throughout the show, and is used in a variety of ways musically to really send the message home. You may remember the WOC song immediately after the show is over (the post-show version is particularly catchy), but you will have likely forgotten it by the time you fall asleep; F!'s theme may not stick with you as much immediately, but will follow around for several days after

The other four were popular songs that the audience in 1963 would've known. Most definitely including "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing".

They don't need a bunch of new songs. One or two will do.
