ORWEN: This is a question that came up between the three of us one evening when none of us could get to sleep in our cottage attic--most likely because of Orgoch's disgusting toe nail biting--but that's a topic for a different thread, I guess.

ORGOCH: It's my house an' my attic bedroom an' I'll bite whatever I what whenever I want!! Got it???

ORDDU: (sigh) But getting back on topic, don't the autopica cars seem somewhat obsolete even without Carsland? We were surprised when Hong Kong Disneyland added them to their Tomorrowland. But with Carsland, it would seem to us The Autopia cars would become even less appreciated. Your thoughts?

    ORGOCH: Got gas?

Yeah, Autopia Deb!

I feel that the ride's trackway is pretty much etched in stone. To replace it would be very costly as much of it sits on the roof of the Submarine Bunker.

Any real additions to that area would impact the subs, monorail, Autopia and even the People Rods trackway or is it Rocket Mover's trackway.

Seriously, what could they replace the Autopia with? Given that it had to use the same "footprint".

I think they were considered a gift purchase with gasoline purchase...they were really cute and really popular.

If the first Autopia could go all electric and turn toward the future, that would be truly the best thing that could happen to it.

If they keep Autopia in TL (and I don't see them not doing so), that's a good idea. Make 'em green as soon as the Chevron thing expires, and make them truly futuristic looking as well.

Kids of a certain age love Autopia so much (I did - at that age it was one of the highlights of my DL day) that I can't see them removing it, but I think they lost an opportunity to move it over to Carsland. They could have designed Carsland so that the track was integrated with the land/Radiator Springs, and/or running around the periphery or on a second-story level to minimize the footprint. Thus, kids get to keep the popular U-drive-it attraction, and TL gets that HUGE area freed up for something new. Yes, the sub show building and monorail tracks are in there, but a little imagination they could have figured something out. The roof of the show building has to be fairly strong to hold up the Autopia infrastructure and cars to begin with, so there's no reason something else couldn't go on top of it.

I don't think that the Autopia cars will need to be changed in appearance too much. But electric cars ARE the cars of the future, because hopefully someday everyone will have one.

I think the thing to do, which I think is pretty much where all of Tomorrowland is headed anyway, is just go with a sci-fi motif in addition to making the vehicles electric. The cars could look like something from Star Wars and the landscape would resemble an alien planet or something. Little sound effects (I think HKDL has this) in the cars would add to the experience.
