Discussing the clip kind of requires watching the clip. Since the link to the clip violated community standards, perhaps the admin felt the thread didn't belong. I don't think it was removed solely based on the issue being discussed.

I can understand that. So, I didn't really pursue it much. Mostly it was about why black people use so many horrible slurs against themselves. I don't see other groups doing that, so, my thread contained a word that is often used, and it really confounds me.

I read excerpts of his apology that will show later tonight here in the PST zone. Richards is claiming to not be racist, but holy cow, the rage in that clip and how it went on and on, not just a quick expletive, doesn't do much to support that claim.

Jerry Seinfeld told the audience to stop laughing.

I don't think it was the best forum for him to make this apology, and it was painful and uncomfortable to watch. His explanation of what happened was erratic and sort of all over the map -- he's clearly lost and in a nightmare of his own creation.

    Anyone else see it?

I was wondering if this was perhaps a Borat/Andy Kaufman style setup(not a funny one) but if it was a joke Seinfeld wouldn't be in on something like this.

I give him MAJOR credit for apologizing quickly in what I believe was a very convincing manner. He looked genuinely dejected, embarassed, sorry, sad, etc. Show me a public figure that has been more humble.

It was an immediate address of the situation and I credit him for that. I also credit him for saying he needs to get some help to deal with his anger.

I found Richards' apology to be bizarre and unfocused.

We found that when Richards used the term 'Afro-American' it was a bit clumsy.

It's odd that a man thinks he's not a racist, and then things like this come pouring out of their mouths.

Like Mel Gibson -- he claims he harbors no ill will toward Jewish people, and yet, he goes off on a drunken tirade about Jews.

    How is that?

I agree his apology was all over the place but I think that pointed to a man who was really struggling with what he had done.

Now, in regards to a racism deep down that he didn't recognize, I think there is a legitimate reason for him to try and get more help with this.

I took a diversity class in college and the professor insisted that we ALL have seeds of racism. But, not all of us know about it or act on it. And, like with Richards, some of us find out at inopportune times, usually in times of distress.
