I was so sick of that so I really appreciate people like Kirby along Frank & Ollie (for remembering The Wolf in their wonderful "The Disney Villain" book)

I don't still understand why some people don't think that The Wolf is ferocious enough or seems don't remember him very well. Maybe it's because "Make Mine Music" was not very well received because it wasn't a single-story movie or not widely shown due the winding down of the war (It was 1946 after all) and is not was shown in whole after again (until the DVD) and "Peter and the Wolf" was cut and shown on its own as a "special" short in 1955 but TV was coming out and may hurt its own run in theatres.

Back to The Wolf, in any case , to the ones that HAVE seen "Peter and the Wolf" especially in their youth wouldn't ever forget the striking first appearence of The Wolf as he shakes the "camera" with the force of his roar and slowly but surely thrust his snarling face right to us, filling the screen up with his cold fixed yellow/redorange eyes!

Walt must have had known how much of an impact that this image was on the audience which was important to drive home of how deadly this beast was to Peter and his little animal friends. So the filmmakers had The Wolf do this two more times, one straight from Ivan the cat's P.O.V. where The Wolf is staring hard from above. Another is on the top of a tree branch where the Wolf has Peter and Ivan trapped and, from Peter's P.O.V., walks firmly straight forward towards us, growling and drooling wildly as his body frame starts to fill up the screen.

This was enforced by the deep ominous music that got louder every time The Wolf gets closer to the screen.

Also, no Disney character ever drooled so hard and so much as this Wolf did. Not even the Big Bad Wolf and the wolves from "Lambert The Sheepish Lion" and "The Sword in the Stone" ever did. That helped to force the fact that The Wolf was so starving that he was risking of getting shot just for getting his sharp-toothed long jaws on any living thing, no matter if it was a human, another animal or how small it was.

Indeed, they have seen the inside of his wet maw and the rows of many teeth too often with Sasha the bird actually ending up within the boundaries of the closing jaws (but luckly, gets out of The Wolf's mouth in the nick of time before being swallowed) and Sonja the duck jumping into a hollow log just before the hungry lupine jumped at her with a wide-open maw.

With an uncontrollable dangerous creature like that, just how other people forget to put The Wolf on their villain lists???

Also glad that Kirby mentioned The Big Bad Wolf who was the first to do the "Sneaking behind trees then popping out with drool flowing from his jaws" act. (Not as much as The Wolf did) He was the model of all of the future Disney wolves.

I was disappointed that the lesser yet important (to the story) wolves weren't mentioned like the wolf from "Lambert Thr Sheepish Lion" who could be very well The Wolf's poor cousin with his similar look but less details and very little drooling. (In fact, this Wolf's steady walk towards the camera was rotocoped right from the same walk on the tree branch which the other Wolf, from "Peter and the Wolf", did with the flowing saliva falling out of the jaws exactly the same way!)

Even I have to admit that The Wolf from "The Sword in the Stone" is hardly worth mentioning since he was more of a comic than a villain. Sure he wanted to eat Wart but things kept backfiring on him. (Gets hit in the face by a tree branch, chased by a big runaway rock, and getting stuck in a floating hollow log.)

Good list even though Kirby missed some other Disney wolves.

See, I'm willing to bet that just about all the Disney fans can agree with us on the Cheshire Cat, although Disney insists he is a Villain (keep in mind that Tinker Bell did try to have Wendy killed).

The Crocodile...well, according to Frank-n-Ollie, he was a Villain in Hook's eyes. Yes, his theme song tells you not to smile, wink or be friendly with a crocodile, but... he only went after Hook. Then again, there's the possibility that he could have gone after others after he consumed the codfish captain.

And the Fates... again, they've been sort of been thrusted into the Villain category (Bad Girls stainless steel coffee mug, Mickey's House of Villains), but they were independent, er, um, people and I'm sure they would have foretold prophecies to Zeus and the other gods as well.

I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again: I always find it fascinating to see various minor characters (usually in-betweeners) categorized as Villains. I spoke to the Mad Hatter at Goofy's Kitchen in July, and he too was wondering why he was listed with the other baddies.

It's funny to see Brer Fox and Brer Bear walk around the parks, and I don't think no one ever realized that they were Villains, which is why I'm curious to see Brer Fox's new look.

But the Mad Hatter? No way! He does less bad stuff than the Cheshire Cat.

Brer Fox has a new look?
