ADH was about an hour and a half and also included Disney's Greatest Villains as well, in short condensed version. Sigh... they don't make 'em like they used to. Oh, and Ichabod and Mr. Toad is still being sold in stores. As for Trick or Treat, this was June Foray's first Disney cartoon (as Witch Hazel). She'd return maaaaaaaany years later to voice Granny Fa in Mulan.

In between Trick or Treat and Mulan, she also provided voices in Gummi Bears and Duck Tales, as well as some other minor voice work on other Disney projects. I agree too that Trick or Treat is one of my favorite Disney cartoons!

Hans Conried (voice of Captain Hook) was the Magic Mirror. That was one of my favorites as a kid.

Am I correct with these old memories?

Let's reminiscence, shall we? OUR UNSUNG VILLAINS, 1956 Hosted by Walt, who then lends hosting duties to the Magic Mirror (played by Hans Conried), this program was originally shown in B&W. A few years ago when it was aired on Vault Disney, it would turn to color as soon as the Mirror was summoned. The hour-long special featured the following Villains in nice, meaty segments: -The Big Bad Wolf: This was actually from 'Three Little Wolves', so BBW was joined by his 3 sons (not to be confused with Lil' Bad Wolf, the *good* son) as they attempt to capture The 3 Little Pigs. Fifer and Fiddler get caught, but Practical comes to the rescue with a very elaborate invention. -The Evil Queen: It's pretty much the last 20 minutes of the film as the Queen finds out Humbert duped her with a pig's heart, and it's off to the lab to become the Hag. -Brer Fox and Brer Bear: It's the Laughing Place segment from 'Song of the South', and if you've ridden Splash Mountain, you know what to expect. BF and BB have Brer Rabbit all tied up and set for a nice little barbecue, but BR tells BB about his laughing place, much to the chagrin of BF. -Captain Hook: And we end here with the Skull Rock sequence as Hook and Smee attempt to drown Tiger Lily. The Crocodile (unofficially aka Tic-Toc) creates havoc for Hook. About 20 years later, the fine folks at Disney released... DISNEY'S GREATEST VILLAINS, May 15, 1977 Hans Conried returned as the Mirror, and even reused the same opening spiel. We have more Villains to deal with this time, but in a much more condensed version: -Captain Hook: Skull Rock sequence -The Evil Queen: Poison apple sequence -Madam Mim: It's the classic Wizards' Duel from 'Sword in the Stone', with the middle of the duel cut out, so we can see Mim's defeat to the rare germ, Malagolintomontorosis. -Maleficent: One of my favorite lines is when the Mirror is complaining that Prince Phillip had to get help from 'three little old ladies with wands', therefore making it a 4-on-1 battle. LMAO! Anyway, Phillip escapes from the dungeon and the mighty Maleficent turns into her dragon alter-ego. -Cruella/Tremaine/Hearts: Another way to squeeze all of the Villainnesses in the special, these three were given a 15-second medley as the Mirror mentions them. Cruella throws the wine bottle in the fire, Lady Tremaine utters "Hold your tongue" to Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts screams her usual. -Madame Medusa: The centerpiece of the program since 'The Rescuers' would open in theatres the following month. Penny is shown in Devil's Bayou before she's captured by Nero and Brutus, as Bernard and Bianca follow them. We then cut to the scene where she forces Penny into the cave and spouts the usual threats. Then it's back to where Medusa is shooting everyone and inadvertently cracks the Magic Mirror, signaling a commercial break. Interesting note: the music in this segment was not used in the actual film. -Edgar: And now for something quieter, as we get Edgar (!) catnapping The Aristocats before being, ahem, hounded by Napoleon and Lafayette. -Willie the Giant: I suppose we got to add the Rodent in there somewhere. It's Mickey and the Beanstalk as Willie shows a very different side when he's angry. -Kaa and Shere Khan: Kaa ensnares Mowgli and gets in the only song of the program (Trust in Me), before Shere Khan pays the wily python a visit. The Magic Mirror offers some words of wisdom as the viewer watches Mowgli and Kaa run off into the jungle. The early '80s brought us the 90-minute A Disney Halloween and the 45-minute Disney's Halloween Treat. A DISNEY HALLOWEEN, 1983 The only host was that of a Rod Serling-esque narrator and it featured a plethora of Villains and spooky cartoons. The opening and closing credits showed a medley of Halloween-themed cartoons, as well as footage from the Haunted Mansion. I don't remember everything that was on it, but here's what I can come up with: -Fantasia: And we open up the festivities with Night on Bald Mountain with the just-as-big-as-Mickey-and-Walt Chernabog as he starts a night of revelry with various demons, ghosts and imps. -The Old Mill: Classic Silly Symphony cartoon as a dilapidated old mill falls apart during a storm and possibly threatens the animals who inhabit it. -Sword in the Stone: The Wizards' Duel again, but it ends just as Merlin is about to butt Mim into the water. -Winnie the Pooh: The Heffalumps and Woozles dream sequence. -Cats: A medley of cat cartoons featuring one that looks like it's set in the 1700s. A few shorts with Pluto and cats (including Pluto's Judgment Day), followed by Si and Am's "We are Siamese" from Lady and the Tramp. -Mickey/Pluto: The narrator mentions how we can let our imaginations get the best of us. This clip shows Mickey looking for a killer on the loose, as a pair of shoes get tangled with his shotgun, causing Mickey to think that there's someone to behind him. -Disney's Greatest Villains: The Magic Mirror is the Guest of Honor and we get a 30-minute version of DGV, all mixed up and edited (Hook starts, then it's all the male Villains, with Mim's segment left out for obvious reasons). His segment ends when Medusa "shoots" him. -Lonesome Ghosts: Mickey, Goofy and Donald play ghost exterminators to some mischievous ghosts. -Donald and the Gorilla: One of my favorites, as Donald and the nephews play mind games with each other on the fact that a mad gorilla named Ajax is on the loose. Little do they know that the ducks have a surprise visitor on the way... -Trick or Treat: The final cartoon as Witch Hazel comes to the aid of Huey, Dewey and Louie to get revenge on their Unca Donald. DISNEY'S HALLOWEEN TREAT, 1984 After the credits, we are shown a fully-stocked table for a Halloween party, which all sorts of goodies... and a very large pumpkin, who will serve as our host (the table shot had a bit cameo in ADH). What's a Halloween party without witches, and so without further adieu... -The Sword in the Stone: Wizards' Duel, same as ADH -Night on Bald Mountain: Another clipped version of the segment from Fantasia. Unlike ADH, this is the entire beginning of the sequence and ends when Chernabog gets all the ghosts to the mountain. -Captain Hook: This time Hook and Smee capture Wendy and the boys and leave a bomb for Peter. The bomb goes off, leaving Hook and Co. to think Pan is dead. -Cruella de Vil: The climax of Dalmatians! Er, sorry, 101 Dalmatians as the dogs roll around in soot and try to pass themselves off as Labradors. Cruella catches on and chases them back to London and we have the famous shot of the Cruella-from-Hell, which used to scare me when I was little. -Trick or Treat/Lonesome Ghosts/Donald and the Gorilla/Mickey & Pluto: Not medleys, but these three cartoons/clips are featured in the program as well. -Cats: Again with the same cat medley in ADH. (I don't remember if the Poison Apple sequence from Snow White is in this special. I *don't* think it is). -The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad: Ichabod Crane attempts to make his way home in the final segment of the program. His spooky ride through the Hollow is a bit clipped before the Headless Horseman makes his awesome appearance. The pumpkin leaves us with some parting words: "See you tomorrow. Maybe." Ah, if only Disney would put these all onto one fat Special Edition DVD. But no. They churned out Mickey's House of Villains instead, which I'll save for another time. Oh, there as a UK-only video in the early '80s called Disney's Greatest Villains, but this one was hosted by Kaa and Shere Khan, and featured Villains from both the animated and live-action world. You can only find it on eBay though. And yes, I remember the Jonathan Winters special where he portrayed both himself and a somewhat mean talking pumpkin. I think that was done in the '70s.
