If you like TRON, if you love TRON, I'm happy for you. Seriously. There are things in life that I immensely enjoy, to the astonishment of my friends and family. We all have our guilty pleasures. For you, it's TRON: Legacy. But not so much for the majority of us.

Here's the thing, Kevin. You and other TRON fans have got to count your blessings that you have this film to watch and marvel at. Disney was stupid for green lighting this particular incarnation of the film, let alone giving it to a newbie director who makes JJ Abrams look like a cinematic god. This film could have been and should have been much more than what it turned out to be. What the heck was Disney thinking! Biggest disappointment from Burbank in many years.

I'm sorry that you despise it so much. And it seems like the "legacy of the Original TRON" isn't this new movie, but the poor attempts of Disney to CREATE a market for a product by over producing "stuff" (toys, games, apps, and possibly spin off animated episodes). It's disappointing, truly it is.

But at some point you can watch everyone else swim in the pool with no water slide, no float toys, no spray fountains, and chilly temps, OR you can decide that the pool you've LONGED for from the bottom of your soul, is better than no pool at all.

You nailed it when you pointed out how lucky WE (those rare few who like it) that the movie was even made. I get that FULLY. I truly do.

It's all sad when I think about how much better it could have been. I admit it. But... It's all "we" have.

And the landscape wasn't beautiful to me. It was dark and depressing. If I were trapped in the GRID like Kevin Flynn, living in that environment for two decades, I would have off'ed myself long before the second decade rolled around.

At least we agree it could have been so much more. That's the part that frustrates me so much! There was soooo much more interesting material to exploit, but they decided to focus on the lesser elements.

I wanted to know more about the ISOs. Their story was more compelling! That should have been the focus, not the crappy CLU-as-Sauron plot that's been told a million times ad nauseum in one form or another. I wanted this TRON to expand into a different territory. But at its core, it was just another flavor of the MCP takeover tale from the original TRON. Disappointing doesn't begin to accurately describe my buyer's remorse.

Disney built up incredible goodwill with the fans before the film was released. But now, it's blown. I doubt they can get the genie back in the bottle with a sequel, no matter how good the sequel would turn out to be. Fewer movie goers would buy a ticket to the sequel, and that would be a money losing proposition. And truthfully, I don't hold much hope for a sequel to be better than this waste of celluloid.

Until Disney can pull some seriously talented science fiction writers and directors into their stable, we're never going to see films like Star Trek or even Fifth Element (which I enjoyed far more than TRON) coming from Walt Disney Pictures.

Disney should simply stay away from science fiction, if this is the best that they can deliver.

Also the orig movie had been out of print for years which denied people brushing up on things before going to see the new movie. I think making the sequel was a great idea, but playing to the old cult followers of TRON while drawing in a new, younger audience, Disney completely dropped the ball. Sad. Oh well. What would be interesting would be a in-between-quel but that'll CERTAINLY NEVER happen.

You nailed it when you said that Kevin would have never made it 20+ years in a place like that, not even with Quorrra ;) And I was very put off by that scene with the "old timey" televisions giving that terrible monologue / backstory on Kevin. That little scene was cheap, and poorly written, and set a bad tone right off the bat.

Agree? I was very disappointed with these things.
