I know Chicago has high crime areas, but I always feel completely safe when walking in the Loop and Magnificent Mile areas. It is easy to see the bad and not the good when you've lived in a place for a long time. I always questioned the high quality of life rankings Minneapolis/St. Paul received when I lived there. Now that I'm gone I see all of the wonderful things that I took for granted. The weather and cost of living there suck, but it really is a great metro area. So is Chicago.
