It was excellent and I'll never rent a car again unless I need it for other reasons. We requested an UberXL--their minivan-type service--which is a little bit more than a standard UberX. Cost each way was about $80 from and to LAX. That seems like a bargain for door-to-door service, not having to schedule a shuttle, not having to deal w/ a rental, not having to pay for parking, etc. We were picked up about 5 min. after the request both times. In other words, we paid $40 per person, round trip, for a private car. I've also found in major cities like L.A. or D.C., drivers are incredibly professional and often have water, cell phone chargers, etc., for their passengers. YMMV, so consider: We went in early December and we lucked out on traffic. Never slowed or hit a jam either way, which has to be some kind of record. Obviously if you got stuck in traffic for several minutes you can expect to pay a little more. We had to fly into LAX (long story), so Long Beach or John Wayne airports will be different (and cheaper). Not being from L.A., I was concerned that a driver might object to going so far from the designated service area. That turned out to be a silly concern; I talked to the driver and they take people everywhere. At the Grand Californian, they pick up and drop off in the far-left lane, so wait for your driver there.

The only advantage is that small children don't need car seats on motor coaches, so it could help families with very young kids On the flip side, a Super Shuttle or PrimeTime Shuttle from LAX costs $15 per person and they continuously pick folks up, so you shouldn't have to wait more than 10-15 minutes. Like the 'official' bus, you'll probably have to make some other stops along the way, but you won't have to change vehicles. The vans aren't anything fancy, but I've never been uncomfortable in one (though I did have a rather 'adventurous' driver once). YMMV If you have 4+ people in your group, it sounds like a cab/Uber/Lyft/whatever is probably your best option

Maybe that is because we were going to the DLH and not one of the "good neighbor" hotels. I took the Super Shuttle once and you couldn't pay me enough to take it again. The van was in poor mechanical condition and didn't even have working seatbelts in all positions.

They seem to run just as frequently, but aren't as well known, so it's a great little trick!
