Luckily we live in an older established neighborhood (a couple of our neighbors are originals or descendents of the people who bought the homes back in '59). But I digress, I spent a lot of money on line and was worried when things were shipped and delivered without signature. Anyone could have picked the parcels up and been away with them before they were noticed to have gone missing.

My idiot story... Harry & David petit four cheesecakes... two small boxes within one shipping box... UPS leaves a note on the door and puts the box over the gate (wrought iron, so he has a clear view) into the backyard with our two 65 lb. dogs (which he would also have a clear view of because they come running at any sound of activity in the front).

Next... The boxes are completely torn open - there's one tiny piece of cheesecake left and the 'boys' are pooping yellow.

*LOL* now... But at the time I was REALLY mad and stupified by the idiot driver's choice for delivery method. UPS wouldn't do anything about it; Harry & David was very gracious and sent us fresh packages. UPS now has computer-based instructions to NEVER leave ANYTHING without a signature.

I did track the package as Alexbook suggested, and it seems the package was signed for by a person that was not the driver. This name is not anyone from my neighborhood, either.

Shipping told me that they don't know who signed for the package, but she's sure that the name wasn't made up.

I expressed my concern that no one in our neighborhood has this name, and that the package could have disappeared.

She told me that I was lucky it didn't, and that I'm lucky all is well, and have a nice day.

    Good old UPS.

Nothing but more of the same.

UPS = waste of time and money.

This is a comfort that not everyone has. Some people hope to get things that cannot be replaced.

LOL!!! How is she supposed to know that? There could be a real Anastasia Beaverhausen for all we know. Or Regina Phalange. ;-)

It's clear that someone at UPS signed for it in an effort to cover their own butt after they realized they didn't get the required signature.

FWIW, as a commercial customer (I deal with UPS and FedEx daily), I've found our FedEx packages are marginally more likely to arrive damaged than our UPS packages.

If you're ordering a package, and the sender asks if you want it insured, say yes. Make sure they insure for the *full* price. A lot of people skimp on the insurance to save shipping costs.

    >>I have even had UPS employees tell me that complaining will do no good whatsoever.<<

Remember that when you call an 800 number, you usually get somebody in a customer service center who has no contact with the local operation. If you can, try to complain to someone local--ideally the driver him/herself, or his/her supervisor.

Where I live now, I had a "Welcome" mat get stolen. It showed up in front of a neighbor's front door. Sometimes you just have to laugh. ;-)

This is S.O.P. for UPS, don't waste your life.

I do NOT deal with UPS daily, but most certainly I deal with them 3 times a week minimum. I also receive packages from FedEx, maybe one a week.

My experience is easily tikted the other way.

I have never had one single box arrive via FedEx damaged or none lost.

I have had dozens arrive from UPS damaged and a couple just disappear.

I had one lady at UPS tell me that there was a place in their terminal that was a known issue, that packages fall off of this curve or whatever throughout the day and that they have a full time worker who stands there and repairs, retapes, or even repackages the contents of the shipments.

I see Monkeys in my mind's eye.

Been there, done that. Does no good, in fact her super told us that she is "just that way" and that we should "just ignore her attitude" when we get something damaged. We should "refuse the shipment" which is all well and good until you get something you really need that very day.

UPS just does not care if you are on the rec side, "I mean if you are receiving the package you aren't paying the bill, you are not their customer," as I was told by the UPS employee.

Um, did I come on a little strong? Looking back, I see maybe I did. Sorry about that.

Okay, that's just wrong on so many levels.

    Are they typing Shakespeare? :)

You know what scares me? When the FedEx driver opens the door of his truck and there's a scattering of styrofoam peanuts on the floor. Whose packages are those coming out of?

Meanwhile, back to 999HAUNTS: How are enjoying their hold music?

So it got there in 2 days, normally. That was kind of a waste.

Whenever I order something from the Apple store, they send it FedEx and require a signature. I hate it. When they get to the door, they knock ONCE and if you don't hear/answer it, they leave you the little note and take off. I end up having to wake up early and camp out by the door waiting for my delivery.

A few minutes later, the driver realized he was on the wrong street, went back, retrieved the package, and dropped it off on my porch.

Since he already had a signature, he didn't need mine or piratebrittany's.

What a crock. Again, if that package was missing, I would have been screwed without dinner. (Can I type that here? Sorry...)

They had their signature, even if it wasn't ours. That's all the driver cared about. He didn't even apologize. He just said "You got the package, right?" "Have a nice night"
