The only hotels within walking distance of any of the parks are Disney hotels. You can walk from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom and from the Epcot Hotels to both Epcot and MGM Studios. Although Disney discounts some of its rooms during certain times of the year; there is no way to makes a reservation through a third party that will be any cheaper than what you can get directly from Disney. The "Hotel Boulevard" hotels across from Downtown Disney are not owned by Disney and do occasionally offer significant discounts. Although those hotels are walking distance to Downtown Disney, they are not walking distance to any of the parks. Walt Disney World is many, many times larger than Disneyland... so much so that they offer totally different experiences. To give you an idea of the size... WDW cover 47 square miles; ALL of Anaheim covers 49 square miles.

So, WDW is just a teeny bit bigger, and you should definately plan accordingly.

Originally Posted By davewasbaloo Hi Susan, I echo some of the thoughts here. If you are a Disneylander, please be advised that WDW is the size of San Francisco. The Magic Kingdom is 1.5 times bigger than DL, Epcot is 3 times bigger, The Studios is about the same size and Animal Kingdom is about 4.5 times bigger than Disneyland. There are 2 water parks, 2 night time districts, 5 PGA Golf Courses, a speedway, a sports complex and 22 hotels. Definately need to brush up. For easy access, the Monorail hotels are great - Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian (but they are the most expensive) and get you to the MK and Epcot easily. The Epcot hotels (Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin) are easy access to Epcot and the Studios via boat or walking. If you like the Grand Californian, I recommend staying at either the Wilderness Lodge near the MK or Animal Kingdom Lodge near Animal Kingdom - they were designed by the same architect Peter Dominic and are beautiful. However, all of these are deluxe resorts and can be pricy for some. But WDW has some great moderates that are well themed and good value - Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside, Caribbean Beach Resort, and Coronado Springs. They also have glorified motels called values - Pop Century and the All Stars - Movies, Sports and Music. I recommend you read some of the threads on this board to get more ideas as well as visiting www.allearsnet.com

It's possible to by slightly discounted WDW passes at AAA (which also gives you premium parking rights) and at the Super Walmart in Kissimmee (It's on 535, just north of 192).
