According to Newsweek, as many as 30 people threatened to resign after that little stunt.

His priorities are clear - he's serving the interests of bush and the administration at the expense of the public and justice. As attorney general, he fully understands the US constitution - and is perfectly willing to subvert it and then lie about it to congress and the public. To any other president, this would be a major embarassment, but not for bush. Corruption is so endemic within his administration that this particular scandal is just one more in a long line. Still, you have to think that the GOP party leadership would have spoken privately with the white house about cutting gonzales loose now - before the election campaign. He's a major liability to the GOP candidates - or should be anyway - if they want to win more votes than the 25% support that bush has. Especially if the 'no-confidence' votes pass. And how could they not? What congressperson in their right mind - of either party - could vote to endorse gonzales for the highest law enforcement officer in the land after he's purjured himself right in front of them?

That's the time to get in a lather about perjury, not over this small stuff.
