Hollywood and Highland is there (I find that boring but there are shops to poke around in).

From the bridge across the central area of H&H you can see the Hollywood sign. Also in H&H is the Kodak Theater, where the Academy Awards are handed out and American Idol holds its finale show.

The Chinese Theater has the world famous forecourt with the hand and footprints of the stars. It is free and very kid friendly. Just watch ou for the costumed "characters" that roam about posing for pictures. They are very aggressive and expect to be paid.

Next door to the El Capitan is the studio for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Within the immediate blocks are the Hollywood Wax Museum, the Ripley's Believe It or Not Odditorium, and the Guiness Book of World Records Museum.

There are stairs but as I recall, elevators or ramps too. Kind of neat to see Graumans and then a few steps away, Kodak. Makes watching the Academy Awards an "I've been there" moment :) As said above :) the Disney Soda Fountain is right across the street with El Capitan next door, also fun for a peek even though you won't go inside.
